ShopeePay boosts footfall for offline merchants with new ‘Deals Near Me’ feature

Users can discover and redeem vouchers in-store from nearby merchants from as low as 5 sen throughout the Raya Bersama Shopee campaign

Mobile wallet ShopeePay has developed a new feature known as ‘Deals Near Me’ that will efficiently connect ShopeePay users to offline merchants, offering the best deals in their immediate vicinity, just in time for the Raya Bersama Shopee campaign happening now till 14 May.

‘Deals Near Me’ is an online-to-offline (O2O) feature that uses location-based services to help users discover ShopeePay Vouchers by nearby merchants including cafes, restaurants, and services. Users can easily purchase vouchers on the Shopee app, and redeem them immediately at participating outlets to enjoy attractive cashback when they pay with ShopeePay.

According to Alain Yee, Head of ShopeePay Malaysia, the vouchers will help offline merchants connect with users who are going online first to look for daily essentials and food. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted shopping and consumption habits of Malaysians and this, in turn, has raised the importance for offline merchants to reach customers in new ways.

“Deals Near Me helps merchants improve their online visibility and direct would-be customers to their outlets when we feature their cashback deals to consumers that are already in the vicinity. Showing the relevant deals to consumers can also lead to higher conversion and tangible sales for merchants. This is important for business recovery after an extended lockdown period which adversely impacted offline retailers, especially those in the service sector. We also believe that this new feature creates a win-win situation for both our users and participating merchants as we enable a convenient, seamless and rewarding shopping experience,” he said.

Since 1 April, the feature has driven footfall of over 100,000 customers to the 130 early adopters of Deals Near Me. Top merchants include MR DIY, Tealive and The Black Whale.

Launched during the Raya Bersama Shopee campaign, there are vouchers specially curated for Ramadan that can be found at three different times of the day: Sahur Specials at 5AM, Jom Berbuka dengan ShopeePay at 12PM, and Moreh Specials at 10PM.

The vouchers can be bought for just 5 sen to earn up to RM8 cashback, from merchants such as Nasi Kandar Pelita, Nando’s, TGI Friday’s, Boat Noodle, Johnny’s, OLDTOWN White Coffee, J.Co Donut and Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart.

The Raya Bersama Shopee campaign will also offer users free shipping with no minimum spend and deals from as low as RM1.

Users should take note of two very special days - the Jualan Hebat Raya on 23 April and Pesta Jualan Raya on 5 May, that will offer Malaysians irresistible deals and discounts of up to 80% on home appliances, furniture, Hari Raya outfits, decorations and more in preparation for Hari Raya.

Adding to the cheer on these special days, users will be entertained with the Raya Bersama Shopee Show on 23 April at 10PM, followed by Jom Heboh Di Rumah on 4 May at 9PM and 5 May at 2PM, aired on Shopee Live, TV3 and Tonton. The shows will feature Shopee’s Hari Raya Brand Ambassador, Iman Troye, as well as local artists and celebrities including Anuar Zain, Ernie Zakri, Kaka Azraff, Syamel, Chef Wan and more.

Tan Ming Kit, Senior Manager (Marketing), Shopee Malaysia shared that the e-commerce platform would also be providing convenience to Malaysians who want to give back to society during Ramadan through the #ShopeeGivesBack umbrella.

“We also want to use our platform’s capabilities to offer people the means to do good. Donate from RM1 to Budimas Charitable Foundation, Pertubuhan Kasih Neelofa, Protect and Save the Children, SimplySiti Di Hati, Shelter Home for Children, Ukhwah for Ummah, and more to provide financial aid to underprivileged children and families. Additionally, celebrities such as Siti Nordiana, Izzue Islam and Farahanim Razak will discuss social issues and their views on charity on Shopee Live at 3PM, every Friday during the campaign,” Tan said.

The Hari Raya celebrations will be even more exciting with two units of Perodua Ativa, Yamaha motorbikes, up to 25 million Shopee Coins and other great prizes to be won when Malaysians take part in One or Not as well as Share and Win Prizes.

The Kotak Duit Raya game show also returns every Monday to Friday at 12PM on Shopee Live, where users stand to win a grand prize of RM3,000 cash daily which will snowball to a maximum of RM9,000 if there are no winners.
