Marriott International Hotels and Resorts, in collaboration with the Marriott Worldwide Business Council in Malaysia & Singapore, will host a Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday 29th June 2024 at the exquisite The Els Club Desaru Coast. The inaugural event culminates in a Gala Dinner and Charity Auction which aims to raise MYR 100,000 (SGD 28,000) in support of UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) – an organization working to protect the rights of every child with health care and immunizations, safe water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.

“Marriott International operates 47 hotels in Malaysia and 19 more in Singapore, and the Marriott Business Council is committed to supporting the communities in which we operate” said Mr. Grant Young, General Manager of The Westin Desaru Coast and Chairman of Marriott Business Council Malaysia. “The event gives each of us a great sense of purpose to be able to come together to raise funds for UNICEF, whose work in over 150 countries provide humanitarian and developmental aid for children” he adds.
Funds raised by the Charity Golf Tournament will go towards UNICEF’s Iskandar Malaysia Ecolife Challenge (IMELC), which aims to create awareness of Low Carbon Society (LCS) for students, teachers and their families through modules, community programmes and competitions to achieve the target of carbon reduction including combating plastic pollution.
Located at the Southeast of Peninsula Malaysia, The Els Club Desaru Coast is a 90-minute drive from the Malaysia–Singapore causeway and aims to unite the business and social golfing communities for a round on the Ocean Course designed by four-time major champion Ernie Els. Open to 128 golfers across all levels, tickets are priced at MYR 1,300 per person and the event will feature complimentary food and beverage activations along the course by Marriott International hotels from Malaysia and Singapore. Golfers will also receive a goodie bag featuring items from sponsors including Adidas Golf Shirt and Cap, Taylor Made Sleeve of Golf Balls and one round of golf at The Els Club Desaru Coast valid for a future visit. During the tournament, players may also try their swing at a Hole-in-One Challenge by BMW Malaysia, with the first golfer to achieve the Hole-in-One walking away with a new car.
The Charity Golf Tournament culminates in a Gala Dinner and Charity Auction at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort. Friends and family of the golfers may reserve seats to the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction taking place on Saturday 29 June at MYR 430 per person. The event promises lucky draw prizes from Marriott International Hotels & Resorts in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Maldives as well as live music and DJ to complement the experiential international buffet dinner with flow of wine and beer.

Travelers looking to visit Desaru Coast for the weekend would be able to select from two Marriott International hotels for their stay, from the 275-room The Westin Desaru Coast Resort to the 311-room Four Points by Sheraton Desaru. Room packages at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort start from MYR 1,450 for a night’s stay for two persons complete with two seats to the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction. For golfers, the Golf Weekend package available at MYR 2,300 includes a night’s stay at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort for two persons, two seats to the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction and one ticket to the Charity Golf Tournament. Pre-golf activities include a Poolside Barbecue at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort in the evening of Friday 28 June; the all-you-can-eat barbecue comes complete with flow of wine and beer and is priced at MYR 290 per person.
