OPPO Partners with Manus to Bring Agentic AI Experiences to Smartphones

Imagine asking your smartphone to plan an entire holiday, only for it to find your flight bookings, hotel reservations and attraction tickets, then put everything together into a proper travel itinerary. No jumping between apps, no copying and pasting information, and no manually organising everything yourself.

That's the kind of experience OPPO is working towards through its newly announced collaboration with Manus, an AI agent platform. The partnership aims to bring more advanced AI capabilities to smartphones, allowing users to go beyond asking questions and actually get tasks completed.

The new capabilities will be integrated into OPPO AI Mind Pilot through a new Agent Mode, making their debut on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series running ColorOS 17.

From Answering Questions to Actually Getting Things Done
Most people are already familiar with using AI to answer questions, summarise information or generate content. OPPO wants to take that experience further by introducing what is known as agentic AI.

Instead of simply telling you how to complete something, an AI agent can understand what you're trying to achieve, figure out the steps involved, identify the information it needs and work towards delivering a finished result.

Through the Manus integration, AI Mind Pilot is being designed to handle more complicated tasks involving multiple steps, apps and sources of information.

"Agentic AI marks an important shift from answering questions to helping users get things done," said Kai Tang, President of Software Engineering at OPPO.

He explained that the collaboration will enable AI Mind Pilot to better understand users' intentions, take actions and complete tasks, with the goal of making personal AI a more natural part of everyday life and work.

What Can OPPO AI Mind Pilot Actually Do?
One of the most interesting examples shared by OPPO involves travel planning.

Let's say you've already booked your flights, hotel and a few activities for an upcoming holiday. Normally, you'd need to go through your emails and different booking apps, collect the details and manually put together your itinerary.

With the upcoming Agent Mode, users could simply ask AI Mind Pilot to organise their trip. The system is designed to locate relevant bookings and reservations across apps, combine that information with useful online details and produce a personalised, day-by-day travel itinerary.

The idea is to reduce the amount of manual work involved, particularly when important information is scattered across different places on your phone.

And it isn't limited to travelling.

OPPO also envisions AI Mind Pilot helping users organise their photo collections, find specific images and bring together existing files with online information to prepare presentations, proposals, portfolios and other ready-to-use materials.

Rather than going through every step individually, users could potentially complete these tasks with a single prompt.

Tao Zhang, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Manus, said smartphones are a natural platform for personal AI agents because of how closely they are connected to people's everyday activities.

By combining Manus' agentic capabilities with OPPO's system-level integration, the companies aim to make advanced AI agents more accessible through simple, natural interactions.

What About Privacy and Personal Data?
Of course, an AI assistant that can access your files, photos and personal information also raises an important question. How much of that information will be shared?

According to OPPO, ColorOS 17 will use on-device AI models to understand and organise relevant information locally.

For tasks such as finding, organising or renaming files and photos, the original content will remain on the smartphone and will not be shared with Manus.

If a particular task requires external processing, AI Mind Pilot will request the user's explicit confirmation before uploading or sharing the relevant information.

OPPO says users will remain in control of which information can be accessed, what actions the AI can perform and whether external processing is permitted.

This distinction matters because the more useful an AI assistant becomes, the more likely it is to work with personal information. OPPO and Manus are positioning user authorisation and local processing as important parts of the experience.

Coming to the OPPO Find X10 Series
The Manus-powered Agent Mode will make its debut on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series with ColorOS 17.

For now, OPPO has not announced the exact launch date, supported markets or whether these capabilities will eventually become available on other OPPO devices. More details are expected when the Find X10 Series launches.

What makes this collaboration interesting is the direction smartphone AI is taking. Instead of adding more features that users need to learn and operate individually, the focus is shifting towards helping people accomplish what they actually want to do.

Whether that means organising a holiday, finding a forgotten photo or putting together a presentation, the real test will be how reliably AI Mind Pilot can turn a simple request into something genuinely useful.
