Malaysian Red Cross Kuala Lumpur Flood Relief Through Bantuan Tabung Bencana

Recently, we have been shocked by severe flooding in several states of this country. An estimated of 68, 341 victims and 18, 080 families had been evacuated from their homes and were placed in 396 temporary evacuation centres.

This unexpected tragedy caused victims to lose their homes, belongings, and household equipment, as well as loved ones, in the blink of an eye. Although the flood has begun to recede, the victim’s suffering continues. In the face of economic uncertainty and the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, flood victims seems to be far away from recovery.

Due to this matter, Malaysian Red Crescent Kuala Lumpur (MRCKL) had launched a Bantuan Tabung Bencana initiative to collect post-flood donations for victims.

The donations will be used to lessen the burden of the victims in the form of household needs such as kitchen utensils, food, medical assistance, providing assistance in cleaning the affected area. Other than that, we will also provide education materials to the children in the affected areas and will supply to logistics and operating costs.

It is hoped that Bantuan Tabung Bencana initiative by MRCKL with the support of Malaysians will provide a new hope to the flood victims and supporting them to recover also helping them return to normal life.

Star Pisces Sets Sail Today With First Cruise From Penang

Genting Cruise Lines achieves new milestone with first cruise resumption in Malaysia with Star Cruises, signalling the start of the recovery of the cruise and travel industry

Star Cruises, the first cruise company to restart sailing in Malaysia since the pandemic, resumes operations with Star Pisces in Penang

Genting Cruise Lines today achieved a new milestone with Star Cruises as Star Pisces sets sail on its very first journey from Penang (Malaysia) after a long period of hiatus due to the global pandemic, marking the start of the recovery of the domestic and regional cruise and travel industry.

As the first sailing operating under the new norm of safety and preventive measures in Malaysia, embarking guests were introduced to a series of enhanced precautionary measures to safeguard guests and crew, as well as to provide a worry-free vacation experience. These include the mandatory requirement for all guests and crew to be fully-vaccinated and undergo a series of health screening with the ship operating at 50% of the passenger capacity.

Happy guests ready to set sail on board Star Pisces’ first cruise from Penang on 22 December 2021

“We’re off to a positive and exciting start as we kick off today’s first sailing with Star Pisces from Penang, introducing new holiday options and experiences for Malaysians, including the 1-Night Straits of Malacca cruise and the 2-Night Langkawi Escape cruise. We are taking the necessary steps to educate consumers on how cruising have evolved to operate in a new norm with layers of safety measures and the application of new safety equipment, making it one of the safest way to travel and enjoy a vacation,” said Madam Cynthia Lee, Vice President of Sales, Genting Cruise Lines.

“With our cruise vacations offering value for money packages, our 2-Night Langkawi Escape for 26 and 28 Dec 2021 are already almost sold out based on the permitted capacity limit. As such, we are optimistic that the demand momentum will continue to be strong in 2022,” added Madam Cynthia Lee.

Maxims Plus Suite - A variety of accommodations range from wallet-friendly staterooms to luxuriously-appointed suites

Genting Cruise Lines has been a pioneer in demonstrating safe cruises in the region since the start of the global pandemic and aims to increase its footprint of safe cruises in Malaysia and across the region. Genting Cruise Lines is actively in discussion with various authorities from different countries, including Malaysia, to develop a ‘Harmonize Cruising Standards’ for the region. This will create new opportunities to open international cruising in a controlled and safe manner across the participating countries such as creating Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs) for cruise passengers.

Also, it will enable Genting Cruise Lines to further spur the growth of the tourism sector with the gradual re-introduction of inbound tourists to Malaysia from its cruise ships homeported in neighbouring countries and through the expansion of new itineraries in Malaysia and the region such as to Phuket and Medan in the near future.

Goodday Milk Gives 10,000 Customised PPEs Designed By Malaysian Kids To Frontliners

Goodday Milk to brighten mundane PPEs with winning designs and provide winners of Goodday’s Happee PPEs contest with education funds worth RM10,000 each

Bringing smiles to Malaysian children, the country saw many young artists come together for Goodday’s Happee PPEs campaign to spread joy and cheer to their hospitalised peers during this challenging time. Goodday Milk, one of Malaysia’s favourite milk brands since 1968, launched the campaign in conjunction with World Children’s Day to allow children to give personal protective equipment (PPE) a joyful new look. Spreading goodness through both their nourishing beverages and people around them, the brand showcased the winning designs on customised PPEs, which were handed over to Puan Ariesza Noor, Chief Corporate Officer, KPJ Healthcare Berhad here at KPJ Damansara Hospital on the 17th of December.

Proving their artistic skills were like no other, Auni Maisarah Binti Mustaffa (11 years old), Choong Xin Yu (6 years old) and Chua Ee Xin (5 years old), were selected as the top 3 Grand Prize winners and were given the opportunity to pursue their dreams in the future, through an education fund worth RM10,000, each. Extending positivity and happiness to those their age, their attractive designs will be printed on 10,000 units of PPEs, used by healthcare professionals treating hospitalised COVID-19 patients in hospitals across Malaysia.

These winning designs not only demonstrated the talent the younger generation has but also highlighted the desires these children have for those hospitalised – to remain positive during these unpleasant times because greater days are in store. The bright colours used in these masterpieces also highlighted how Goodday Milk lets the goodness flow through these happy winning designs and to not be afraid when being treated by healthcare professionals dressed from head-to-toe in PPEs. Instead, these hospitalised children will be empowered to face difficulties and challenges with resilience.

“There is no doubt that children tend to get scared and have increased levels of anxiety when seeing healthcare professionals dressed in their PPEs, bringing about negative connotations. We launched Goodday’s Happee PPEs contest to allow children to spread positivity to their hospitalised peers in children wards and remove the fears, surrounding PPEs. We are so grateful for all the participants who showed their excitement through this meaningful campaign and on behalf of Goodday Milk, congratulations to the three Grand Prize winners as well as the additional 10 consolation winners. We hope Malaysians of all ages will continue to stand united as we go through this time together. We aim to bring goodness to Malaysians in the time to come through exciting campaigns and innovative products and we hope everyone will continue to support this too,” said Yee Pek Kuan, Vice President of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd.

The for kids, by kids contest which ran from 25 October until 14 November 2021, saw the enthusiasm of children aged 5 and 12 years come together towards this cause. The contest received an overwhelming response from participants resulting in Goodday Milk further spreading glee by awarding an additional 10 young artists with RM500 each. This Goodday’s Happee PPEs contest also went to show how unity lies deep within the core of Malaysians of all ages.

LG’s Indoor Gardening Appliance Presents Modern Concept For Greener, Healthier Homelife

Featuring Advanced Technologies Perfected Over Many Years of Home Appliance Experience, Smart Garden Lets Consumers Grow Their Own Greens All Year-Round

LG Electronics’ (LG) updated concept of green living will be unveiled at CES 2022 with its modern freestanding indoor gardening appliance, LG tiiun[1]. Tiiun, which means “to sprout” in Korean, is an apt name for LG’s newest appliance that enables even the most novice of gardeners to cultivate vegetables, herbs and even flowers in the comfort of their own homes, all year long[2]. Stylish and remarkably simple to use, LG’s latest lifestyle innovation offers all the benefits of a full-featured garden without the worries of pests or unfavorable climate.

Designed as a completely self-contained unit, LG tiiun features two shelves that can each hold up to six all-in-one seed packages along with three different kinds of seed kits. With each seed package containing 10 holes for seed germination, users can grow a variety of greens simultaneously for home-grown goodness in only four to eight weeks, faster with less mess thanks to the magic of technology and LG’s advanced know-how.

A CES 2022 Innovation Award winner, LG tiiun was recognized for its innovative technology and design and for the differentiated consumer benefit it delivers. This modern smart gardening system leverages LG’s technological expertise across multiple home appliance categories to deliver reliable results and an effortless, largely automated, plant cultivation process, employing various technologies from decades of expertise honed from developing advanced refrigerators, water purifiers and ventilation systems.

Utilizing LG’s renowned Inverter Compressor, the Flexible Weather Control System precisely adjusts tiiun’s internal temperature to create the optimal conditions for organic growth. As well as automatically regulating temperature and light to mimic the natural cycle of the day, LG’s smart gardening system delivers water eight times every 24 hours while its Auto Ebb & Watering System circulates the ideal amount of moisture to help transform the seeds into healthy greens and vibrant flowers.

The internal structure of LG tiiun is designed to increase photosynthesis efficiency, amplifying the effect of the internal LED light source to speed up the growing process. The transparent door lets users watch their plants grow while still providing an airtight seal to maintain a consistent internal temperature and keep pesky insects out. With LG’s mobile ThinQ™ app, users can monitor the entire germination process from afar, check or change settings and receive notifications when the water tank needs refilling.

A convenient solution for greener, healthier living at home, LG tiiun also provides value through its simple yet elegant design. Harmonizing beautifully with any style of interior décor, tiiun is showcased in two sophisticated and soothing colors: Nature Beige and Nature Green.

“LG tiiun is a practical and convenient solution for busy consumers who want to enjoy a greener, healthier lifestyle at home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “A stylish addition to one’s home or apartment, our smart gardening system makes growing herbs, leafy greens and flowers fun and simple, even for those of us with zero gardening experience.”

LG tiiun and LG tiiun mini will be on virtual display in LG’s digital exhibition booth during CES 2022 starting January 5.

Intel Investment Of More Than RM30 Billion Underscores The Long-term Strategic Association With Malaysia

Intel Corporation, one of the world’s largest chip manufacturers today announced its investment of more than RM30 billion for its Malaysia facility. This investment underscores the long-term strategic association of a 50-year heritage of manufacturing excellence with Malaysia. The additional investment will help expand Intel Malaysia’s operations across Penang and Kulim.

This major investment, through their subsidiary, Intel Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., augurs well with Malaysia’s National Investment Aspirations (NIA), which looks to ensure Malaysia stays at the forefront as a global hub for quality investments while creating high-value jobs. This latest investment bolsters Malaysia’s role as a prominent site in Intel’s global manufacturing network. This new investment is expected to create over 4,000 Intel jobs as well as over 5,000 construction jobs for Malaysians.

The expansion of Intel’s assembly test manufacturing, while also building out die prep capability with the addition of advanced packaging capabilities to Intel’s operation in Malaysia will help ignite growth of the high-tech ecosystem in the region. This investment is impactful not just in terms of enabling us to scale up on the volume of production but also in terms of moving up the value chain of technology transfer and capacity building. In this regard, the recent inking of the MoU between Intel and MIDA will facilitate the cultivation of a thriving tech talent ecosystem and prepare Malaysia’s workforce for an increasingly digital and AI world. This undertaking is indeed timely given the bullish global demand driven by the chip shortages and the potential challenges arising from the recovery of the pandemic globally.

These developments encapsulate the long-term benefits and spin-offs arising from this new paradigm of foreign investment which goes hand-in-hand with our NIA to create technologically advanced and high impact human resource capabilities commensurate with demands of the modern economy.

In the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, the Electrical and Electronics (E&E) industry has been identified as among the high impact industries that are key to realign Malaysia’s growth in a sustainable trajectory while strengthening the nation’s position in the global supply chain. The Government aims for the E&E industry to move up the value chain through stronger adoption of advanced technologies which fits well into global Intel’s overall growth strategy.

Malaysia will continue to advocate a holistic policy of robust and sustainable growth to ensure developments in fostering green technology, digital economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In the first half 2021, the E&E sector recorded RM47.1 billion in approved investments, a significant surge from RM5.0 billion from the corresponding period in 2020. Foreign investments led the approved investments in the industry, making up nearly 98 per cent or RM46.0 billion. These approved projects are anticipated to generate over 9,700 new employments, including skilled positions for engineers, specialised quality controllers and highly skilled technicians.
