Deepavali may be celebrated with the lighting of oil lamps, colourful kolam designs and gatherings with loved ones, but the spirit of the Festival of Lights can also be experienced through the creativity and craftsmanship behind its decorations.

This festive season, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is bringing those traditions to life through "Joyful Lights – Together, Here", a Deepavali celebration featuring a flowing saree installation inspired by 1,080 blessings, giant illuminated elephants, intricate kolam artworks and cultural performances.

Running from 22 October to 9 November 2026, the celebration transforms several locations throughout the shopping mall into a trail of festive installations, allowing visitors to discover different aspects of Indian heritage while exploring the mall.

The celebrations also include traditional and fusion dance performances, festive shopping rewards, exclusive offers for Pavilion Privileges members and a lucky draw featuring the HONOR Magic8 Pro.

Whether visitors are preparing for Deepavali, spending time with family or simply interested in appreciating festive artistry, the mall's installations offer a colourful setting for the occasion.

The Saree of 1,080 Blessings: A Celebration of Tradition and Togetherness
The festive journey begins at the Main Foyer Entrance, Level 3, where visitors are welcomed by an installation called "The Saree of 1,080 Blessings".

Created by UCSI Group, the installation draws inspiration from the number 108, which holds spiritual significance in Hindu tradition. The concept extends that symbolism tenfold, representing collective blessings, prosperity and celebration.

Rather than presenting a conventional festive decoration, the installation takes the form of an elaborate, flowing saree, transforming a traditional garment into a larger artistic expression.

The saree is an important part of Indian cultural identity, with its fabrics, patterns and draping styles reflecting different traditions and forms of craftsmanship. By incorporating this familiar garment into the installation, the artwork connects the visual beauty of Deepavali with a recognisable element of heritage.

Visitors who take a closer look will also notice hidden patterns and details throughout the design, adding another layer of meaning to the installation.

The project brings together several institutions under UCSI Group, including UCSI University, De Institute of Creative Arts and Design (ICAD), UCSI Child Development Centre, UCSI International School Kuala Lumpur and Sekolah Sri UCSI Kuala Lumpur.

Their collaboration demonstrates how educational institutions and creative practitioners can contribute towards cultural celebrations through art and design.

Giant LED Elephants Illuminate the Spanish Steps

Moving further into the mall, visitors will encounter another striking festive installation at the Spanish Steps, where two giant LED elephants stand illuminated against a backdrop of colourful floral decorations.

Elephants are associated with wisdom, strength and good fortune in Hindu cultural symbolism, making them a fitting feature for a celebration centred around light, prosperity and blessings.

The illuminated sculptures bring a more contemporary interpretation to the traditional symbolism, combining decorative lighting with familiar festive motifs.

Positioned along the Spanish Steps, the two elephants create a prominent setting for visitors to appreciate the installation and capture photographs with family and friends.

The design also offers a visual contrast between the cultural symbolism of the elephants and the modern lighting technology used to bring the display to life.

For those planning to explore the mall's festive decorations, the Spanish Steps installation is one of the main stops along the Deepavali trail.

The Circle of Light: A Colourful Kolam Created by University Students
Another highlight awaits visitors at the PIAZZA Entrance, Level 3, where an elaborate kolam artwork titled "The Circle of Light" welcomes shoppers.

Created by students from City University Malaysia and City Fashion School, the installation draws inspiration from the tradition of decorating entrances with intricate patterns during Deepavali.

Kolam designs are traditionally created using materials such as rice flour, with patterns placed near the entrances of homes to welcome guests and symbolise blessings and prosperity.

During Deepavali, these designs often become more elaborate, incorporating floral arrangements, geometric patterns and vibrant colours to reflect the festive spirit.

At Pavilion Bukit Jalil, The Circle of Light brings that tradition into a contemporary public setting through an expansive design featuring flowing patterns and a decorative floral border.

Beyond its visual appeal, the artwork introduces visitors to a cultural practice that requires creativity, patience and careful attention to detail.

Surrounding the installation are glass showcases featuring selections from the mall's fashion, beauty, home and gifting retailers, presented through colour themes inspired by the festive decorations.

The Guardian of Auspicious Light Completes the Festive Trail
The Deepavali decorations continue one floor below, at the Bukit Jalil Entrance, Level 2, where visitors can discover another kolam installation titled "The Guardian of Auspicious Light".

Featuring vibrant colours and traditional decorative elements, the second kolam complements The Circle of Light at Level 3, creating a visual connection between the mall's different festive spaces.

The installation is intended to symbolise auspiciousness and welcome, reflecting the role that kolam designs traditionally play during celebrations.

Together with the saree installation and the illuminated elephants, it forms a trail that celebrates different expressions of Indian culture, from textile heritage to decorative art and symbolism.

Visitors can explore these installations at their own pace while travelling between the mall's entrances and shopping areas.

Deepavali Dance Performances on 31 October and 1, 7 and 8 November
Beyond the decorative installations, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is also celebrating Deepavali through cultural activities and performances.

The mall previously hosted a Diya Paint & Glow Workshop, where Pavilion Privileges members decorated traditional clay oil lamps using their own colours and patterns.

The activity introduced participants to the significance of diyas, which are traditionally lit during Deepavali as symbols of light and the triumph of good over darkness.

For visitors planning to visit over the coming weekends, the celebration continues with Indian Semi Classical & Fusion Dance performances at the Foyer Entrance, Level 3.

The performances are scheduled for:
