Yeo’s Takes Its Flavours Beyond the Familiar with the Launch of Malaysia’s First-Ever Teriyaki Tuna

“Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist” brought the Taste, Culture and Spirit of Japan to the Heart of Bukit Bintang

Yeo’s has introduced its first-ever canned Teriyaki Tuna in Malaysia, marking the launch with “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist”, a Japanese-inspired experience in the heart of Bukit Bintang.

The new launch continues Yeo’s long-standing focus on food and beverage innovation, with the brand evolving its portfolio over the years to bring Asian flavours and everyday convenience to consumers. Its milestones range from being among the first to introduce canned curry chicken to developing a diverse selection of Asian beverages and sauces.

As consumer tastes continue to evolve, Yeo’s is now looking beyond familiar local flavours for inspiration. Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna combines tender tuna with a savoury-sweet teriyaki sauce, adding a distinctly Japanese twist to the range alongside Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna.

“Yeo’s has always been driven by a spirit of innovation, evolving with the tastes and lifestyles of consumers while staying true to our heritage. From being among the first in Malaysia to introduce canned curry chicken to the familiar flavours Malaysians have grown up with, we continue to explore new flavour inspirations from around the world, bringing fresh and relevant choices to the table. With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, we are taking this journey a step further by introducing a Japanese-inspired flavour that brings a contemporary twist to a familiar pantry staple, creating new possibilities for families and younger generations to enjoy Yeo’s in ways that fit today’s tastes,” said Tan Mei Yen, Yeo’s Country General Manager.

The move into tuna also builds on the ingredient’s familiarity among Malaysian consumers. A study published in Food & Nutrition Research examining fish consumption patterns among adults in Peninsular Malaysia identified tuna as the fourth most frequently consumed marine fish among those surveyed.[1]

More recently, figures from Malaysia’s Fisheries Department reported that 431,000kg of tuna worth RM7.76 million were brought into Penang in 2024, more than double the volume recorded in 2023. The figures reflect Penang’s growing role in Malaysia’s tuna industry.[2]

Together, these insights underline tuna’s established place within Malaysia’s seafood landscape. With consumers increasingly seeking convenient and flavourful options that can fit into a balanced diet, Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna introduces a different flavour direction to the familiar pantry staple.

“We know that Malaysians appreciate food that is convenient, versatile and full of flavour. With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, consumers can enjoy the savoury taste of teriyaki in a format that is easy to incorporate into everyday meals, whether enjoyed on its own, paired with rice or noodles, or used to create their own dishes. Beyond introducing a new flavour, Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna is also high in protein and a source of Omega-3, offering nutritional benefits that complement today’s growing interest in more balanced and mindful food choices. We are excited to bring this new flavour to Malaysians and let them discover their own favourite way to enjoy it,” added Tan Mei Yen.

The launch came to life through “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist”, a Japanese-inspired roadshow held from 2–4 October 2026 at The Starhill Ground Floor Piazza, Bukit Bintang.

Visitors were able to sample Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna while taking part in several interactive experiences, including a stamp-collecting adventure, Japan-inspired photobooth, Gashapon game and Cosplay Competition. Prizes ranged from Yeo’s products and Touch ‘n Go reloads to onsen vouchers and a flight ticket to Japan.

Yeo’s also extended the Japanese-inspired experience beyond the roadshow with a guerrilla activation inspired by Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing. Dressed in kimonos and other traditional Japanese wafuku, the guerrilla crew took to the streets of Bukit Bintang, bringing an unexpected touch of Japan to the area and creating photo-worthy moments for members of the public.

The campaign continues beyond the roadshow through the “Yeo’s To Japan Contest – Win Tickets to Japan”, which runs from 1 October to 30 November 2026.

Consumers who purchase participating Yeo’s products, including Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna or Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna, can take a photo or video showing how they enjoy their Yeo’s Tuna and share it on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok while tagging the applicable Yeo’s Food Malaysia social media account. A total of 12 winners will be selected under the contest.

The new Yeo’s Tuna variants are now available at leading supermarkets and hypermarkets, including Lotus’s, Village Grocer, Jaya Grocer, NSK Grocer, AEON and Econsave.

With its latest flavour now available in Malaysia, Yeo’s continues to explore new taste experiences for consumers. Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna brings a Japanese-inspired twist to the familiar tuna category while adding another flavour to the brand’s evolving portfolio.
