TNG Digital Sdn. Bhd. has introduced an overseas ride-hailing feature within TNG eWallet, allowing Malaysian users to book and pay for transport services across 47 countries and more than 12,000 cities without downloading separate ride-hailing applications.

Announced in Kuala Lumpur on 5 November 2026, the service is powered by Alipay+ and connects users with participating ride-hailing providers, including DiDi Travel, AMap, Bolt, Lyft, GO and Kakao T.

TNG Digital describes the launch as the first overseas ride-hailing service offered by a Malaysian eWallet, expanding its travel-related features beyond cross-border payments, travel deals and eSIM services.

Malaysians can pay for their rides in Malaysian ringgit using their existing TNG eWallet balance, with fares displayed before booking confirmation. Trip information and transaction records are also accessible within the application.

TNG eWallet Overseas Ride-Hailing Available Across 47 Countries
The new service provides access to participating ride-hailing operators in popular Malaysian travel destinations, including Japan, South Korea and China, as well as selected markets in North America and the European Union.

According to TNG Digital, the providers available in key destinations include:
  • European Union: Bolt.
  • United States and Canada: Lyft.
  • Japan: GO.
  • South Korea: Kakao T.
  • China: DiDi Travel and AMap.
The feature aims to simplify transportation arrangements for travellers who would otherwise need to download local applications, complete additional registrations or set up separate payment methods after arriving overseas.

Where multiple participating providers are available, users can choose a service that meets their travel needs.

However, actual provider availability may differ by destination and city. The announcement does not specify that every listed operator is available throughout all 47 supported countries.

Overseas Rides Can Be Paid for in Malaysian Ringgit
One of the main features of the service is the ability to pay for overseas rides using an existing TNG eWallet balance.

Rather than setting up an additional payment method with an overseas transport provider, Malaysian users can complete their transactions within the TNG eWallet application.

The company states that ride fares are displayed upfront before users confirm their bookings, helping travellers understand the amount payable before proceeding.

Users can also access their trip information and transaction history within TNG eWallet, providing a record of their transport bookings and payments.

Although payments are made in ringgit, the announcement does not provide specific information about exchange rate calculations or whether additional charges may apply in certain markets.

TNG Digital Expands Its Travel Services Through Alipay+
The overseas ride-hailing feature is part of TNG Digital's efforts to develop TNG eWallet as a broader travel companion for Malaysian users.

The company reported that approximately 35% of TNG eWallet users have used at least one travel-related service within the application.

Existing travel features include travel deals, eSIM plans and cross-border payments, while the latest addition enables users to arrange local transport after reaching their destination.

Alan Ni, Chief Executive Officer of TNG Digital, said the service addresses a practical challenge faced by Malaysians travelling abroad.

"Malaysians are already using TNG eWallet to prepare and pay for their trips. Overseas ride-hailing addresses one of the first practical needs after they land: getting around without setting up another app or payment method. This is another step in building TNG eWallet into a more connected travel companion for Malaysians," he said.

The integration is enabled by Alipay+, Ant International's unified wallet gateway, which connects participating digital wallet partners with international merchants and travel services.

Scarlett Xing, General Manager of Alipay+ Travel Solutions at Ant International, said the collaboration reflects the company's approach to connecting consumers with overseas services through applications they already use.

"Alipay+ is making mobile experiences borderless, enabling consumers to access the services they need through the apps they already know and trust. By connecting our partners to a broader ecosystem of services, we’re turning their apps into intelligent gateways to the world, where AI and interoperability bring consumers closer to the right services and merchants, at the right moment, wherever they are," she said.

The launch builds on previous cooperation between TNG Digital and Alipay+ in international payments, digital engagement, travel services and AI-powered solutions.

How to Book Overseas Ride-Hailing Through TNG eWallet
Malaysian travellers can access the new overseas ride-hailing service through TNG eWallet in supported destinations.

The company has provided illustrated booking guides covering the general ride-hailing process and DiDi Travel bookings.

These guides show users how to navigate the booking feature within the application. Travellers can review the relevant provider, trip details and displayed fare before confirming their journey.

Payment is then handled through their existing TNG eWallet balance, with the transaction record available in the application.

With the introduction of overseas ride-hailing, TNG eWallet now brings together more travel-related services within a single application, from preparing for a trip to making payments and booking local transport abroad.

The service is available through supported ride-hailing providers and destinations, with booking options and fare information displayed within the app.
