WCT Holdings Berhad (WCT) has expanded its environmental initiatives in 2026, reporting the processing of 40,500kg of food waste at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya and the planting of 2,000 mangrove saplings in Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
In an announcement dated 5 November 2026, the group outlined several measures spanning food waste management, surplus food redistribution, biodiversity conservation and environmental education.
The initiatives involve WCT's hotel operations and its corporate social responsibility programme, WCTGives, particularly the #AGreenerTomorrow pillar, which engages employees and local communities in environmental activities.
Among the developments are an upgraded food waste processing system at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya, a food rescue partnership at Première Hotel Klang, and mangrove restoration efforts undertaken with students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Le Méridien Petaling Jaya Processes 40,500kg of Food Waste
Le Méridien Petaling Jaya upgraded its Entomal Mobile Bioconversion System (EMBC) to the EMBC+ system in July 2026, following the initial introduction of the technology in April 2024.
The upgraded system incorporates grinding, dewatering and oil separation processes to improve the efficiency and hygiene of food waste handling.
Once processed, the waste can be collected and used as fermented feed for livestock, aquaculture and black soldier fly larvae.
According to WCT, the hotel has processed a cumulative 40,500kg of food waste since implementing the original EMBC system. The group estimates that these efforts have helped avoid approximately 81 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in greenhouse gas emissions.
The figures represent cumulative results since April 2024, rather than waste processed or emissions avoided during 2026 alone.
Le Méridien Petaling Jaya also received Green Hotel certification from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in July 2026, recognising its environmental practices.

Première Hotel Klang Partners With What a Waste to Redistribute Surplus Food
In September 2026, Première Hotel Klang introduced a Food Rescue Programme in partnership with What a Waste to reduce the amount of edible food being discarded.
Under the initiative, suitable surplus food, including unserved buffet items, is recovered through scheduled collections and redistributed to beneficiaries.
The programme aims to reduce unnecessary food disposal while providing food assistance to communities in need.
Unlike the EMBC+ initiative at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya, which processes food waste for potential reuse as feed, the Première Hotel Klang programme focuses on recovering edible food before it becomes waste.
WCT did not disclose the quantity of food recovered or the number of beneficiaries supported through the programme in its announcement.
WCT Plants 2,000 Mangrove Saplings in Sabak Bernam
Beyond its hotel operations, WCT has continued its biodiversity conservation activities under the WCTGives #AGreenerTomorrow initiative.
Working with the Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter (RAS UiTM SC), the group planted 2,000 mangrove saplings at Denai Tebuk Mendeling, Sabak Bernam, exceeding its annual biodiversity target of 500 trees.
The activity marked WCT's third consecutive year of collaboration with the student organisation.
Since the partnership began in 2024, a total of 3,864 trees have been planted, contributing to ongoing mangrove ecosystem restoration and coastal biodiversity conservation efforts.
Mangrove restoration forms part of broader efforts to protect coastal ecosystems and maintain habitats that support biodiversity.
The figures reported by WCT represent the number of saplings planted. The announcement does not provide survival rates or subsequent ecological monitoring results.

Klang River Educational Trip Highlights Plastic Pollution
WCT also organised a Klang River Educational Trip in collaboration with Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG), giving employees an opportunity to learn about river rehabilitation and the environmental effects of plastic pollution.
The programme included a river awareness boat ride and a guided riverbank clean-up, highlighting how improper waste disposal can contribute to pollution in waterways.
Through the activity, participants received firsthand exposure to rehabilitation efforts and the importance of preventing pollution at its source.
The initiative forms part of WCT's environmental education activities, which complement the group's operational waste management and conservation programmes.

WCT Integrates Environmental Practices Into Business Operations
Dato' Lee Tuck Fook, Group Managing Director of WCT, said the group's environmental responsibilities extend beyond community activities to how its businesses operate.
"Environmental responsibility is something we need to consider in the way we run our businesses, not just through the activities we organise outside our operations.
"At our hotels, we are looking at ways to better manage food waste and reduce unnecessary disposal. Through WCTGives #AGreenerTomorrow, our employees also have opportunities to contribute to conservation efforts and learn more about the environmental issues affecting our communities. We will continue working with our employees and partners to improve these practices and identify other areas where we can make a difference."
WCT's 2026 initiatives bring together waste reduction measures within its hospitality operations and environmental programmes conducted with external partners, reflecting the group's stated approach to improving environmental management across its businesses and communities.
