HONOR Magic9 Pro Max Joins Professional Photographers Trackside to Capture High-Speed Motorsport Action at Sepang

Flagship smartphone put to the test in one of photography's most demanding environments

HONOR's upcoming flagship smartphone, the Magic9 Pro Max, has made an unexpected appearance at the dedicated photography area at Sepang International Circuit, where it was spotted alongside professional camera equipment capturing high-speed racing action.

The appearance came just days after the smartphone was officially launched in China on 28 September, making it one of the first public showcases of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max's imaging capabilities in Malaysia.

Motorsport is one of the more demanding environments for photography, requiring precision, speed and the ability to capture fleeting moments clearly. With racing cars regularly exceeding 300 km/h, photographers typically rely on large telephoto lenses and professional cameras to follow the action and produce sharp, detailed images.

Against that backdrop, the sight of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max among rows of professional photography equipment at the circuit naturally drew attention from photographers on site.

“When I saw someone using a smartphone to capture the race, I assumed he was just shooting for fun. But after seeing the results, I was genuinely surprised by how sharp and detailed the images were,” said a photographer who was at the circuit.

Biggest Upgrade in Celebration of Magic 10th Anniversary

The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max marks the 10th anniversary of HONOR's Magic series and has been described by the company as the “biggest upgrade” in the line's history.

Its imaging system is one of the key areas of focus, with the device featuring a dual 200MP ARRI cinematic imaging system that places an emphasis on telephoto performance and high-speed capture. These capabilities are central to HONOR's positioning of the device against competing flagship smartphones.

Early demand for the HONOR Magic series in China has also been strong. The series secured the top spot among new Android flagship devices on its first day of sales, with sales surging 194% within just 30 minutes of launch compared with the previous generation.

Malaysian Availability Yet to Be Announced

HONOR has yet to announce the availability of the Magic9 Pro Max in Malaysia, although interest in the flagship is already building among Malaysians following its launch in China.

Its trackside demonstration at Sepang also reflects a broader shift in the smartphone market, where competition among flagship devices is increasingly moving beyond everyday photography towards more specialised capabilities such as long-range zoom and high-speed image capture.
