Webinar in Collaboration with Tourism Malaysia New Delhi Proves Selangor’s Commitment in Rebuilding Tourism Post-pandemic

Tourism Selangor does not put a hold on its promotional initiatives even when travel ban has not been lifted. Some of those planned in-line in 2021 include roadshows to other Malaysian States, programmes with Local Councils and virtual events and initiatives which extend to e-Travel Fairs and frequent Webinar sessions, including the ones involving international audience. These efforts are crucial so as to ensure Selangor’s position on the global map even when the entire tourism industry has been severally-affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As such, Tourism Selangor collaborated with Tourism Malaysia New Delhi and Yorker Holidays for a 1-hour Webinar session held on Friday. Represented by the Manager of Promotion, Puan Khuzaimah Jamaluddin, Tourism Selangor was able to showcase the State’s new and existing tourism products to nearly 200 travel agent participants from North India.

This initiative was a subsequent engagement from Tourism Selangor’s previous collaboration with Tourism Malaysia Chennai in early 2020. India has become one of the fastest growing outbound travel markets in the world, and Malaysia is often one of the top preferred destinations, especially to first-time Indian travellers. It may be due to the shorter travel distance and lesser expenditure than to that of what western destinations demand.

Impacts of Covid-19 and New Norm Practices
The Selangor State Government was systematic in handling the Covid-19 aftermath and was first to introduce a virtual movement tracking application called SElangkah: Langkah Masuk dengan Selamat.

Selangor’s tourism operators are ready to welcome tourists post Covid-19 by ensuring guidelines based on the SOPs set by the Malaysian National Security Council and the Malaysian Ministry of Health are met, adhered to and practiced at all times at their premises. Special guidelines such as reducing the maximum visitor capacity at-a-time up to 50% reduction of normal capacity at tourism attractions in Selangor allows visitors to practice social distancing. The airports in Selangor are also prepared in welcoming a large number of visitors once borders are open including social distancing measures at commonly-congested areas around the airports.

Travel Trends
With strength in diverse tourism segmentations, Selangor is a perfect destination for urban experiences, as well as for the quest of tranquillity or serenity of nature. The Webinar session was merely an effort to cater to emerging travel trends which Indian tourists are looking forward to in Selangor.

The travel trends include travelling for honeymoons, pre- or post-wedding photoshoots, MICE and film tourism, and theme and amusement park experience. Some of the State’s tourism attractions highlighted during the Webinar session include Sekinchan, Kuala Kubu Bharu and Royal Klang towns, Sky Mirror, i-City, Avani Sepang Goldcoast, Sunway Resort, Palace of the Golden Horses, Ninja Private Kitchen, Kanching waterfalls, Batu Caves, MAEPS Serdang, FGS Dong Zhen temple, Sunway Lagoon, Discovery Park, Bangi Wonderland and JumpStreet.

“Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere” Campaign
“Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere” Campaign is geared towards positioning Selangor on the global map, especially in international Media coverage and among foreign social media users. The campaign warps around the idea of portraying Selangor as a well-rounded destination of joy for future international travellers. The initiatives include the usage of the #SplendidSelangor and #TakeMeAnywhere hashtags on social media to establish a significant branding of Tourism Selangor.

Closing
The outcome of the Webinar is hoped to entice travel agents in North India to include Selangor in their travel packages. Moving forward, Tourism Selangor is also open to any FAM Tour programmes involving the Media and travel agencies from North India once travel ban has been lifted.

Azrul Shah Mohamad, General Manager of Tourism Selangor recently shared, “Tourism Selangor is looking at the silver-lining of the pandemic by taking this opportunity to strengthen Selangor’s tourism branding, which in return encourages State’s development, as well as enhances infrastructure and tourism facilities in 9 Districts of Selangor. When the borders are open, Selangor will be more than ready to welcome international tourists with enthusiasm and enhanced service hospitality and facilities”.

Selangor, which is home to modern skyscrapers to the lush greens and beyond, poses the right balance of nature versus leisure.
