Coursera Announces Free ‘Coursera for Campus’ Options and Academic Integrity Upgrades for Malaysian Students and Academic Institutions

New updates to benefit over 9,000 local undergraduates in Malaysia, across 70,000 programmes in leading local tertiary institutions

Coursera, the world’s leading online learning platform, announced free versions of its Coursera for Campus programme, with upgraded features, that will enable universities in Malaysia to deliver academic integrity for credit-bearing online learning and improve student employability.

This effort will benefit Coursera for Campus’s 9,000 students who are currently enrolled in over 70,000 courses, offered by leading institutions including BAC Education Group. To date, Coursera has over 321,000 learners in Malaysia including independent students, corporate professionals and civil servants.

The announcement builds on the momentum of its global Campus Response Initiative to give students and faculty free access to Coursera for Campus during pandemic-related closures. Currently, more than 3,700 institutions worldwide use Coursera for Campus to deliver online learning to over 2.4 million students.

Coursera for Campus is available to students and academic institutions in these offerings: -
  • The Student plan – Offers every university student free access to unlimited Guided Projects for hands-on learning and one course annually*
  • The Basic plan – Offers up to 20,000 free student licenses to every university. Every license includes access to unlimited Guided Projects and one course annually*
  • The Institution plan - Provides unlimited Guided Projects and unlimited course enrollments for each student license. It also enables universities to manage for-credit online learning programs with enhanced academic integrity.

“The pandemic has been a catalyst for universities to make online learning the core of their student experience,” said Jeff Maggioncalda, Coursera CEO. “We’ve grown from 30 universities using Coursera for Campus to over 3,700 in just seven months, and these upgrades will help them better deliver for-credit online learning and job-relevant skills for their students.”

Commenting on this, Raja Singham Sukumaran, Chairman and founder of BAC Education shared, “We are committed to transforming lives through education, producing globally employable graduates. Our partnership with Coursera is a result of our commitment to providing our students with quality content mapped to their ambitions. The new features on Coursera for Campus platform will further help deliver more robust learning."

In addition to 4,200 ready-made online courses from leading universities and companies, faculty can now build custom courses and assessments using the same powerful authoring platform as Coursera’s university content partners. The platform also includes digital-first engagement tools like bite-size videos, in-browser programming assignments, and Guided Projects – all optimized for low data consumption and downloadable for offline learning.

To support universities in delivering credit-bearing online learning with advanced academic integrity features, the platform enables faculty to author and administer custom, high-stakes exams at scale with online proctoring. For assignments, it disables URL sharing and copying of peer reviews, and auto-detects plagiarism for both students and graders.

As students ready themselves to enter the job market, faculty can look to improve their student’s employability with job-relevant learning and in-demand skills. Coursera for Campus offers Professional Certificates from industry educators including Google, Facebook, and Amazon in addition to hands-on experience with tools like Python, SQL, HTML, and Google Analytics. Students can learn these skills in under two hours and apply them in interviews and on-the-job.

With this announcement, Coursera for Campus is now ready to meet the enduring needs of higher education institutions worldwide.
