The holy month of Ramadan has typically been associated with the ritual of fasting. However, Ramadan bears more significant meaning than fasting alone, as it is also a time for spiritual reflection, self-improvement, charity and kindness.
In conjunction with the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, IOI Malls, namely IOI Mall Kulai and IOI City Mall, the largest mall in Malaysia, organised Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to share the joy and blessings of Ramadan with underprivileged children.

“We remain mindful that our operations have a significant impact on the communities which we operate. Therefore, we embrace the responsibility to make our impact a positive one. Most importantly, the holy month inspires us to give back, especially children in need, bringing smiles to their faces and joy to their hearts during the Ramadan and Hari Raya celebrations this year,” said Chris Chong, Head of Retail at IOI Properties Group Berhad.
At IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, some 60 children – 30 each from Pertubuhan Kebajikan At-Taqwa Puchong and Rumah Anak Yatim Sungai Kantan Kajang - were treated to a delightful day of fun activities on 11th April 2023. Upon arrival, the children were escorted to Icescape Ice Rink, an Olympic-sized ice-skating rink which is the largest in Malaysia according to the Malaysia Book of Records, where they received Duit Raya and took part in a photo opportunity before being treated to an ice-skating session led by instructors.
Later in the afternoon, the children were taken to Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) where they occupied an entire hall for an exclusive screening of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”. This was followed by an Iftar (breaking of fast session) at Cafe Chef Wan where they enjoyed a sumptuous spread of beloved traditional dishes. Before heading back to their respective homes, the children were entertained with one final show featuring clown magic and balloon sculpting performances.

Both the homes were also provided with groceries, provisions and essentials worth about RM600.
Meanwhile, in IOI Mall Kulai, 42 children from Madrasah Tahfiz Ashabus Suffah Jalan Jati enjoyed an exciting day out on 6th April 2023, which began with a special screening of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and followed by a Zapin performance – one of the most popular dance and musical forms in traditional Malay performing arts.

“We do hope that these children have enjoyed these excursions and the fun that they had. It is also our hope that our Ramadan CSR activities will further encourage the children to do well in life and aspire to be good Malaysians as well as to bring forth kindness to society. Of course, this endeavour would not have been possible without our generous sponsors, including Icescape, GSC, Cafe Chef Wan, Parkson and The Chicken Rice Shop, who all worked in concert to make this initiative especially meaningful for these children. At IOI Malls, this is part of our continuous commitment to reach out and spread kindness to the community and we graciously invite everyone to be part of the festivities and celebrations this season at all three malls, namely IOI Mall Puchong, IOI Mall Kulai and IOI City Mall,” said Chris Chong.
