KitKat Dark Borneo Celebrates Local Cocoa at MICF 2025
Why KitKat Dark Borneo Is More Than Just a Snack
At the heart of Nestlé’s showcase was KitKat Dark Borneo a 52% cocoa chocolate made exclusively from beans grown in Sabah and Sarawak. Think rich volcanic soil, tropical climate, and sun-dried beans fermented the traditional way. The result? A flavor that’s not too bitter, not too sweet just right.
As reported by Nestlé Malaysia, this chocolate was also honored with the NielsenIQ BASES Breakthrough Innovation Award 2024 solidifying its spot as a game-changer.
A Bigger Plan for Malaysia’s Cocoa Future
KitKat Dark Borneo is part of a much larger vision:
- Nestlé aims to source 10,000 metric tonnes of local cocoa by 2034
- Through its Nestlé Borneo Cocoa Initiative (NBCI), farmers in East Malaysia receive training on regenerative practices like agroforestry and intercropping
- Ethical sourcing and Halal-certified production are non-negotiables
By working hand-in-hand with the Malaysian Cocoa Board, Nestlé is reviving Malaysia’s cocoa scene while creating real opportunities for local communities
Made in Malaysia, Shared with the World
The innovation doesn’t stop with chocolate bars. Say hello to the new KitKat Dark Borneo Ice Cream, which features signature KitKat wafer ice cream coated in Borneo-sourced dark chocolate, topped with crushed KitKat bits.
