Malaysians are turning to travel as a way to reset and reconnect emotionally, with creative experiences and wellness getaways driving booking trends.
As Malaysians
continue to seek out meaningful ways to recharge amidst their fast-paced lives,
Klook, a leading platform for experiences and travel services in Asia, is
bringing back its highly popular #KlookDulu campaign with a renewed focus on
joyful, restorative domestic travel.
Running from 18 August to 21 September 2025, the campaign unfolds across three key moments: Discover Negaraku, 9.9 Big Sale, and Jom Cuti Sekolah to cope with Malaysian’s evolving travel needs.
According to Klook's Travel Pulse Study 2025, travellers are
increasingly prioritising lifestyle and leisure activities over traditional
sightseeing. It reveals a rising preference for experiences that promote
personal well-being (such as spa & beauty), entertainment (shows and
events), and memorable hotel stays that offer more than just a place to sleep.
“Travel isn’t about escape
anymore, it’s about returning to yourself. At Klook, we’ve seen a growing
demand in wellness-focused experiences and this reflects a deeper truth: people
are craving balance, not excess. They’re seeking fulfilment, not just entertainment,”
said Sarah Wan, General Manager for
Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia of Klook.
Evolving Travel Motivations Driven by Wellness, Creativity and Joy
Klook’s 2025 platform booking data reveals a strong uptick in lifestyle and wellness-led
travel, showing that Malaysians are prioritising their emotional wellbeing when
planning their getaways.
Among the fastest-growing categories are:
- Entertainment and Spa & Beauty experiences, which continue to see strong momentum, with bookings growing by more
than 1.5x and almost 3-fold year-on-year respectively.
- Creative workshops, such as pottery workshops
are drawing in younger travellers who value hands-on, mindful activities that
allow them to slow down.
- Indoor immersive experiences like Hauntu, Bomb Battle, and escape rooms are popular among those seeking mental escape without having to leave the city.
“I thought Hauntu was just
going to be a random night out with my friends. But I got so into the story, I
didn’t think about assignments or exams the whole time. It felt good to switch
my brain off for once.” said Zen, a 23-year-old university student from Sunway.
Hotels That Do More Than Sleep: Local Getaways Trending Among Malaysians
The hotel vertical remains
resilient, with steady double-digit growth across all hotel types, while
domestic hotel bookings continue on an upward trend. More than ever, Malaysians
are choosing hotels that offer a chance to recharge when planning their next
holiday.
They are increasingly
seeking out:
- City hotels with thematic or boutique concepts, especially for younger travellers seeking a change of scenery without
leaving town.
- Resorts and family-friendly properties near major
attractions, allowing families to blend fun with rest without the stress of
long-haul travel.
- Wellness retreats or boutique stays, especially among couples and solo travellers who want to prioritise self-care or personal time.
“Before having a baby, we’d
plan holidays with jam-packed itineraries. Now I just want to wake up without
an alarm and actually enjoy breakfast. The resort we booked on Klook gave us
just that; slow mornings, no rushing, and time to actually talk to each
other,” said Jason, an auditor and father of a two-year-old son.
Booking through Klook made
it easy to find a resort that worked for everyone, so we could focus on
spending proper time together as a family.”
