McDonald’s Malaysia and its customers are spreading cheer to children at more than 1,000 orphanages across the country till mid-January. 35,000 Happy Meals will be delivered to children at these orphanages which have been impacted by the effects of the pandemic this year.

“We ran a donation programme at McDonald’s restaurants across the nation for over a month, from the start of October till mid-November. Our customers donated a total of 17,891 Happy Meals, and we at McDonald’s Malaysia matched this amount. Now, 35,000 Happy Meals are being distributed to children in more than 1,000 orphanages across the country,” said Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia.

“We thank all our customers who responded to the Happy Meal donation programme for joining us in spreading ‘feel good moments’ to children across the country. We hope that these Happy Meals will bring joy and cheer to the children during this time of the year,” added Azmir.

According to Azmir, the Happy Meals will be distributed to selected orphanages across the nation, from 16 December till 10 January.

This latest initiative by McDonald’s Malaysia is part of the company’s ongoing community engagement activities that take place all year round. With an aim to create a positive impact in the communities it operates in, McDonald’s Malaysia encourages its restaurant crew at its more than 300 restaurants across the nation to carry out at least two community activities each month.

McDonald’s Malaysia and their customers spreads ‘feel good moments’ to 35,000 orphans at more than 1,000 orphanages across the nation, in conjunction with the Happy Meal donation programme.

From 1,200 community activities in 2015, McDonald’s Malaysia has carried out more than 7,000 activities in 2020. Throughout the year, McDonald’s Malaysia has sponsored close to 200,000 meals to the country’s frontliners – including hospital workers, police, and army personnel.

“If 2020 has taught us anything, is that it is now more important than ever for us to stand together stronger as a nation and as a community. This latest contribution to more than 1,000 orphanages is a testament to the collaborative #KitaBoleh spirit that will ultimately have a positive effect on the community. We at McDonald’s Malaysia will continuously do our best for the communities we operate in,” said Azmir.

(L) Mike Duong, recipient from PPR Intan Baiduri and Puan Hezleen bt Hassan, Pengarah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, W.P Kuala Lumpur (Director of JKM, W.P Kuala Lumpur)

“At a time of employment uncertainty, job losses, health and economic challenges, AMWAY Malaysia intends to guide affected communities with a promising route to financial independence and self-sufficiency.

“While we have been providing aid in the form of PPEs and nutritional food to Malaysia’s communities highly impacted by Covid-19 since March this year, we now would also like to create a sustainable platform for the affected families to increase their income opportunities. This, we hope, will in turn, enhance their quality of life, given the escalation of financial challenges due to foreclosures of businesses and retailers,” said Managing Director of AMWAY Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Mike Duong.

At AMWAY Malaysia, he added, entrepreneurship is the heartbeat of the company. The company has to date over 260,000 AMWAY Business Owners (ABOs) nationwide.

“Entrepreneurship has always been a part of AMWAY’s strength. By sharing our business expertise and solutions, we hope to inspire and tap into the talents of affected communities especially the homemakers and those whose income were impacted, due to the pandemic. Starting a small business of their choice will enable the families to help ease any financial constraints faced during this unprecedented crisis,” he said.

Part of the company’s confidence towards the affected lower income group to become entrepreneurs stems from the findings in the AMWAY Global Entrepreneurship Report (AGER) 2020.

The report found 82% of respondents in Malaysia have the desire to become an entrepreneur, displaying the same level as the years prior (2018: 81%; 2016: 82%; 2015: 82%). 67% of Malaysian respondents are convinced that they possess the capabilities to start a business, showing the same level as previous years (2018: 63%; 2016: 63%; 2015: 69%).

55% believe they possess the necessary resources to start a business and 77% share the view that they would not drop their dream of founding and own a business, if their family or friends stood in their way (2018: 72%; 2016: 65%; 2015: 67%). 79% of respondents in Malaysia said they would leverage on their social network (family and friends) if starting a business.

“On behalf of JKM, we are very grateful to have an organisation like AMWAY Malaysia who has been consistent in partnering with us to help the communities in need. Having reached a pivotal point in this pandemic, the nutritional food baskets along with the valuable entrepreneurship insights will help ease any financial constraints faced by affected families at PPR Intan Baiduri,” said Hezleen binti Hassan, Director, JKM Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur in her speech.

To address the immediate nutritional needs of the community, AMWAY Malaysia, in collaboration with long-term business partners Philips Malaysia, Noxxa Products Sdn. Bhd and Orion Food Specialties Sdn. Bhd. donated 100 food baskets worth RM45,000 filled with food items, AMWAY Malaysia’s Pursue hand sanitizers, Nutrilite™ Bio C Plus All Day Formula and Nutrilite™ Kids Chewable Natural C along with Vergold Granola Mix Seeds & Cranberry.

The Nutrilite™ Bio C Plus All Day Formula and Nutrilite™ Kids Chewable Natural C are made from acerola cherries, one of nature’s most concentrated forms of vitamin C, essential for a strong immune system.

“Staying healthy is pertinent in facing the pandemic. We are pleased to assist families in PPR Intan Baiduri and ensure they have balanced meals and nutritional sustenance as they work their way out of financial difficulties,” said Mike.

The food baskets were distributed to the families during JKM’s Kembara Prihatin Negara programme held at PPR Intan Baiduri today. Receiving the donations on behalf of the community was Nazarudin bin Samad, Chairman of Surau Al-Hijrah Committee, PPR Intan Baiduri.

Initiated by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), the Kembara Prihatin Negara programme is aimed at helping one million people in need.

This round of donation is the culmination of a series of contributions by AMWAY Malaysia in 2020, bringing the total of cash and in-kind contributions to more than RM3 million.

Within this year, AMWAY Malaysia has donated a total of 250 Atmosphere Air Purifier units, worth RM1.4 million to the Ministry of Health and raised RM326,940 to support the purchase of 6,500 test kits for University of Malaya Medical Centre. REVIEW: Best health supplements only at nanosingaporeshop.com

There are a lot of health supplements websites or online shops nowadays, which is understandable especially with the pandemic we are facing where everything is recommended being done online. But which health supplement website is trusted and has various selections of supplements that can cater to your needs?

Here’s an honest review of nanosingaporeshop.com, my one stop wellness website. Among many wellness websites in the world wide web there’s more reasons to why I am so in love to get my health supplements at nanosingaporeshop.com.

A lot of us have been neglecting the importance of taking care of our body. Like getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, exercise, eating healthy food. Did you know health supplements also help in maintaining your health? Yes it’s true!

Since the pandemic, I have been having problems sleeping where I find it hard to fall asleep and after a thorough online research on how I can fall asleep, I stumbled upon Melatonin which is a natural hormone produced by our pineal gland that helps us sleep. Cool things where you can find online, knowing more about your body.

Turns out, there’s a Melatonin supplement that is often used in the short-term treatment of insomnia such as from jet lag or from shift work therefore my search for Melatonin supplement continues until I found nanosingaporeshop.com which also sells Deep Sleep Extreme Gummies with Melatonin. Sounds extreme but it is not because the main ingredient in this product is Passiflora or Passion flowers(10mg per gummy) which is a natural calming effect that will help us sleep better, and not to forget Melatonin(1mg per gummy).

What’s the actual difference is that I am not really used to trying out new supplements but after knowing that only 1mg of Melatonin per gummy, I thought this could be a trial product for my body and myself to try and have Melatonin as my sleeping aid. Deep Sleep Extreme Gummies with Melatonin from nanosingaporeshop.com works wonder! I sleep better and soundly now. No it doesn't make me drowsy in the morning and I wake up like a baby every time. Did I mention it’s a gummy? Yes it is, I feel like a kid every time I’m about to go to sleep because I’m having delicious gummy!

Visiting nanosingaporeshop.com is so easy, with a user friendly interface and with constant promotions and discounts which is what I like the most. I have also gotten myself more than just one product because you have to spend wisely by purchasing more for free shipping.

Nanosingaporeshop.com definitely is my go to website to purchase my health supplements. Easy to use, great selections, discounts and free shipping. The Deep Sleep Extreme Gummies is now only SGD24.90(RM75.60).

How to Keep Your Favourite Clothes Looking “Brand New”

Have you ever had someone commenting on how your favourite top looks “beaten up?” You enjoyed wearing it so much that it has started looking worn out from all the regular washes. We all own clothes that have a special place in our hearts. For example, your cardigan which was a birthday gift from mom or that work blazer you bought with your hard-earned first salary. The emotional connection and the money you put into these clothes are what makes them special. No doubt that these clothes are definitely worth the investment. But have you ever wished it lasted longer?

It’s time to evaluate your Cost per Wear (CPW), the total cost of the item divided over the estimated times you’ll wear that item. For example, if you spend RM100 on a new dress and use it 100 times, the CPW is RM1. However, if you only wear it 10 times, the CPW is RM10. Lower CPW translates to a better investment of your money. And the longer your clothes last, the more you use it and the more value you get from it. Extending the lifespan of your clothes will not only benefit you financially but also reduced consumption minimises environmental impact in the long run. Let’s be real, there is no way you can keep your clothes forever – but the least you can do is take care of them and expand their lifespan for as long as you can. How would that be possible, I hear you ask?

Give Your Laundry Some Attention
A study [1] finds that washing your clothes according to their technical quality like the clothes’ fabrics type will improve its lifespan. However, there are countless fabric properties and various ways to wash them. This can get overwhelming especially if you have a busy lifestyle.

But the good news is today’s washing machines come with intelligent technology that can provide meticulous fabric care. LG’s AI Direct Drive (AI DD™), for example, detects the differences in fabric type and automatically choose the suitable washing pattern for you. With deep learning technology, it compares this information against 20 thousand data related to washing machine used for optimal wash cycle programme. This feature will get you the best results in terms of cleaning your favourite clothes and extending its lifespan by 18% [2].

It’s tempting to take shortcuts when doing laundry. While you should always check the instructions on the care label, these are some general techniques to keep in mind as you do your laundry.
  • Wash clothing with metal separately. Metal such as buttons and zippers often find their way into the wash to become seriously hot in the dryer. This can lead to scorching and melting on other clothes.
  • Consider a washing machine with an intelligent care feature like LG’s AI DD™. AI technology will pick the right setting for you.

In the past, doing your laundry may have been time-consuming. But, with the LG washing machine, your laundry can be done in just 39 minutes [3]. The TurboWash™ 360 feature of its latest washing machine cleans your clothes in a shorter amount of time. Thanks to the four directions of 3D multi nozzles, it covers a full 360 degrees of washing - it doesn’t leave even an inch of your clothes unwashed.

LG ensures that you get these innovations at no expense. The LG AI DD™ washing machine line-up comes with bigger capacity without taking up more physical space with the laundry room. This includes bigger drum capacity that will allow you to wash more clothes in the same washer size. More clothes can be washed in a shorter amount of time? Sounds like a sweet deal to me!

Practice Good Storing Habits
The way you keep your clothes can also affect their lifespan. We must remember that proper clothes storage helps with keeping clothes looking brand new. Here’s how you can step up your storing game:
  • Button up buttons and zip up zippers. Sharp zipper teeth, studs and even buttons sometimes catch against other clothes and cause damage.
  • Invest in good hangers. Wire and plastic hangers can stretch the shoulders of your garments and when you wear them, it can look awkward. Consider wood, velvet or plush hangers that can help your favourite outfits stay in shape.
  • Think cool and dry. Storage with excess moisture and heat can encourage the growth of mould on your clothes.

Clothes can collect dust when left untouched for some time. Don’t fret because LG’s washing machine with Steams™ technology can remove allergens up to 99.9% [4] such as dust mites that can cause allergy or respiratory issues. No more sneezing up a storm when you wear your favourite clothes.

Now, you have these wonderful tips that would help preserve your favourite piece. People may want to think twice about calling your favourite clothes “shabby” because when you take better care for them, they will be fresh and clean as the day you bought them!

Colgate Inspires Optimism for Malaysians to #SmileStrongBersama

Colgate partners with Bunga, Jazz Tan, Juliana Adam and Heidy Quah to inspire positivity amongst Malaysians and build a future we can all smile about

Colgate-Palmolive Malaysia (Colgate) launched a new campaign, #SmileStrongBersama, focused on inspiring Malaysians to put optimism into action and spread positivity in order to create a better future that we can all smile about.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused much upheaval and disrupted lives across the world, including Malaysia. Facing such uncertainties, Colgate believes that optimism is the best defence to create a better tomorrow.

See Mei Sin
“At Colgate, we believe that everyone deserves a future they can smile about despite the circumstances. Colgate has been committed to taking care of healthy smiles for 145 years and today, more than ever, we want to give people more reason to smile through our #SmileStrongBersama campaign. This is the essence behind our campaign and this is why we are launching the campaign – to inspire optimism through action and spread positivity. Colgate believes that all Malaysians are empowered to smile, regardless of challenges as well as circumstances,” said See Mei Sin, Associate Director, Oral Care Marketing, Colgate-Palmolive, South Asean Hub.

The campaign has also gained the support of Malaysian optimism champions such as Bunga, Malaysian rapper; Jazz Tan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of YouthsToday; Juliana Adam, Chief Executive Officer of Biji-Biji Initiative; and Heidy Quah, Founder and Executive Director of Refuge For The Refugees.

“We are honoured to have these individuals who have championed optimism in their respective fields. They have shown us that Malaysians can smile in the midst of adversity and we want to further this spirit. With their support, we are confident that we can inspire Malaysians to look beyond their circumstances and extend a helping hand to the less fortunate, to build a better tomorrow for the nation,” See added.

The #SmileStrongBersama campaign launched is not only set to inspire Malaysians to take positive action. The campaign also aims to translate smiles into care packages that include basic oral care products.

During the pandemic, while food, medicine and monetary aid are essential, oral care is also an important aspect of basic necessity. A healthy smile is important to overall health, where good oral hygiene can curb systemic diseases and other problems. An impaired oral health can affect quality of life, which includes loss of self-esteem that may affect social participation and job opportunities [1].

“At Colgate, we constantly innovate to find new solutions for dental issues, and we are well aware that many oral conditions are preventable through effective use of oral care products. However, for some, they do not have the privilege of purchasing them during a time such as this. The #SmileStrongBersama campaign presents an invaluable opportunity where Malaysians can help fellow Malaysians by joining the campaign and donating a smile. One optimistic act done by many can create a powerful ripple of change. Together, we can help the underprivileged community meet their basic oral needs,” See concluded.

Colgate welcomes the public to join the #SmileStrongBersama campaign and put optimism into action through the steps below:
  • Head over to @colgate_malaysia on Instagram
  • Use the “Donate A Smile” filter in Colgate’s bio

Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara Accelerates Digital Transformation with T-Systems

When Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (THKD), the flagship hospital of the fastest-growing healthcare group in Malaysia, wanted to expand its footprint, it decided to do so both physically and digitally. THKD appointed T-Systems Singapore, a leading provider and systems integrator of healthcare ICT solutions, to enable its digital transformation with the vision of enhancing patient experience, improving patient outcomes, and driving operational efficiency.

Nadiah Wan
“Our vision is always innovating and enhancing patient safety and experience,” said Nadiah Wan, Executive Director and Group CEO, TMC Life Sciences Bhd., the parent company of THKD. “When we embarked on this expansion programme to add 400 beds, we decided to futureproof our offerings and embark on a digital transformation that would support our vision to provide patient centred services and integrated, value-based healthcare.”

With this vision, THKD management is exploring solutions to address the rising healthcare demand and digital needs. The first phase of the digital transformation started in November 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2023. T-Systems will implement SAP ERP and healthcare offerings SAP Patient Management and the SAP Cerner i.s.h.med solution, while also setting up the medical group’s digital infrastructure on a public cloud.

“We partnered with T-Systems because they have a proven track record of implementing SAP for Healthcare solutions in Southeast Asia and Europe with an end-to-end solution that optimizes operational efficiency in the finance, procurement, revenue cycle management and EMR functions,” Nadiah said. “It is also a fully integrated system from front to back with best-practices in place, allowing us to make a large leap in transforming and improving ourselves, rather than an incremental step-wise change.”

T-Systems has supported 1,950 projects for more than 700 customers around the world in the healthcare industry, supporting and driving their digital healthcare transformation.

T-Systems optimized accessibility for THKD with a real-time dashboard where staff could remotely access medical records, manage patient experience, order supplies and expedite the billing process— all in one place.

“Once the migration is completed, patients can receive their hospital bills within minutes instead of hours, which is a huge bonus to enhancing patient experience with THKD,” said Andy David, Healthcare Director at T-Systems. “Moreover, hospital staff can easily manage schedules, hospital equipment needs and supplies without consulting multiple sources, which results in bolstering the quality of care THKD can deliver for patients.”

T-System has spearheaded digital transformation for hospitals around the world. For PT Mitra Keluarga Karya Sehat Tbk, a health service provider in Indonesia, T-Systems implemented an integrated system that connects to insurance providers and various other healthcare systems in real time to deliver accurate medical services.

Arkadiusz Czopor
“A reliable single source of truth is vital to ensuring real-time visibility of what’s happening throughout the hospital,” said Arkadiusz Czopor, Managing Director, T-Systems Asia South. “I am very pleased that THKD has chosen T-Systems for their digital transformation. By partnering with us to implement SAP for Healthcare solutions and set up ICT infrastructure on Azure public cloud, THKD will have a solid foundation to run hospital operations and in the future have the full scalability potential for new locations for quick roll-out and connection to the central backend.”

Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara currently features 200 beds and over 100 trained medical and surgical consultants. Once the expansion is completed, the new facility will have a combined capacity of 600 beds, 12 state-of-the art operating theatres, 154 outpatient specialist clinics and an integrated cancer and nuclear medicine centre amongst other key tertiary healthcare services. The hospital was named Malaysia’s Fertility Company of the Year in 2019 by Frost & Sullivan. It received numerous awards for providing the best service for diabetes treatments, women’s health and wellness along with ear, nose and throat treatments.

“We appreciate T-Systems setting a solid foundation for our expansion and digital transformation that is not only scalable to meet our growing needs, but also reliable and secure, too,” Nadiah said.

Low Yat Group picks homegrown supermarket chain Star Grocer as retail partner

Poised to serve approximately 100,000 Bandar Tasik Puteri residents by 2030

Low Yat Group (LYG) has today picked homegrown supermarket chain, Star Grocer to be its retail partner for its Bandar Tasik Puteri urban development in Rawang, Selangor.

The Star Grocer supermarket, with retail size of 55,000 square feet, will be located at Paradise Fair, the lifestyle hub of Bandar Tasik Puteri’s urban development. With Star Grocer as its anchor tenant, LYG is now poised to serve an approximately 100,000 Bandar Tasik Puteri residents by the year 2030.

Spanning across 8.06 acres of prime commercial land, Paradise Fair is the first ever lifestyle-themed retail centre in Rawang. This 2-storey, street-level lifestyle retail hub will consist a supermarket, fast-food drive-thru restaurants and carry various local and foreign retail labels and brands. Paradise Fair has also been architecturally designed to ensure every retail lot is easily visible and accessible to customers.

“As a local business player ourselves, Low Yat Group is committed to collaborate with local businesses and grow together with them in the current challenging business environment. From a synergistic view point, we find Star Grocer the perfect fit.

“The residents of BTP and occupants of Paradise Fair, will need a place to shop for their grocery needs. We are confident Star Grocer is able to provide the convenience, affordability, quality service and easy access to daily necessities to our discerning residents,” said Mr. Andrew Goh, General Manager, Area Property – Development/Management, Low Yat Group.

Andrew added that the confidence stems from the fact that although Star Grocer opened its first supermarket at Desa Pandan, Ampang only in 2016, it has since grown exponentially and within a short time frame of four years, it has today, six outlets to its credit. Moreover, all of Star Grocer’s outlets are located in various urban development locations in Klang Valley, befitting the positioning LYG has for Bandar Tasik Puteri.

Meanwhile, Mr. Fabian Tan, Director of Star Grocer revealed that the company will be investing RM7 million for the initial set up of the retail store which is slated to be opened in the year 2022.

“BTP is tucked within a prime north Klang Valley township and has already hit 60,000 residents in year 2019. Such a rapid occupancy rate is what attracted us to Bandar Tasik Puteri where there is an apparent lack of supermarkets to provide daily necessity and services to the nearby residents. We certainly foresee a high growth potential here,” added Fabian.

Low Yap Group is expecting continuous foot fall traffic of approximately 12,000 to 15,000 per month into Paradise Fair hub due to the strategic location of Bandar Tasik Puteri.

Carsome Announces Series D Fundraising

Capital to accelerate regional expansion of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated e-commerce platform for cars

Carsome, Southeast Asia’s largest integrated car e-commerce platform, recently completed its Series D fundraising. The US$30 million round, one of the largest all-equity financings to-date in Southeast Asia’s online automotive industry, was led by Asia Partners and was joined by existing Carsome investors Burda Principal Investments and Ondine Capital.

According to Eric Cheng, Co-founder and Group CEO of Carsome, this fundraising round, the largest equity investment in Carsome’s history, is a strong endorsement of its integrated business model, with end-to-end digital enablement across used car sellers, dealers, and buyers. “We will use this capital to strengthen our existing regional leadership in consumer-to-business (C2B) used car e-commerce and accelerate our already successful new offering in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment. We look forward to rolling out Southeast Asia’s first-ever C2B and B2C integrated e-commerce platform for used cars, a significantly superior new retail experience,” said Cheng.

“Over the past six months, we have doubled our monthly revenue compared to pre-pandemic levels, a dramatic acceleration due to the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on consumer behavior across our region,” Cheng added. “Consumers across our core markets of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore are increasingly purchasing cars to keep their families safe and adapt their businesses.”

Commenting on the fundraising, lead investor Oliver M. Rippel of Asia Partners observed that Carsome’s combination of strong executive leadership and a robust business model position the company well for future growth. “Carsome’s integrated approach offering a one-stop solution to used car buyers and sellers is genuinely impressive. We see that this will be the way forward for the used car industry, and we look forward to working closely with Eric and his very capable team in further scaling the business across the region.”

Founded in 2015, Carsome has grown to employ more than 1,000 people and today transacts an annualized 70,000 cars totalling US$600 million in transacted value on its online platform. Building on its original foundation in Malaysia, one of Southeast Asia’s largest car markets, Carsome then launched its operations in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, deepening its regional footprint.

Since founding, Carsome has delivered an impressive record of accomplishments, growing from strength to strength. Carsome recorded its highest revenue quarter in Q3 2020 in its history, doubling its revenue from the pre-pandemic period. In November 2020, Carsome celebrated its 100,000th car sold through its platform – an important milestone achieved within five years of founding.

Notably, Carsome has also achieved operational profitability as of October, ahead of earlier projections. “We have built a defensible, scalable, and profitable business with very healthy unit economics attributed to both growth in gross margin and steady improvements in productivity and conversion metrics,” said Juliet Zhu, Carsome Group Chief Financial Officer. “Our Series D round will further support potential merger and acquisition opportunities in acquiring ancillary capabilities and consolidating our supply chain.”

Crucial to Carsome’s success has been its commitment to rigorous car inspections, offering Carsome-inspected and certified cars directly to customers in a seamless fashion, building a reservoir of consumer trust and brand equity in an essential but historically complex industry. Every car that transacts on the Carsome platform goes through a comprehensive 175-point inspection, and every Carsome car purchase is backed up with an extended warranty and a money-back guarantee.

Carsome’s successful track record of digitizing a traditionally offline and fragmented industry, as well as its resilience in the face of the global pandemic, were key factors in several existing investors’ decisions to reinvest in the Series D round. “We appreciate the way Carsome has continued to support car sellers and dealers through the pandemic,” said Albert Shyy, the Singapore-based Managing Director of Asia for Burda Principal Investments, who first invested in the Series B round. “We witnessed Carsome’s growth and resilience during the pandemic and are proud to continue our support,” added Randolph Hsu, the Taipei-based Founding Partner of Ondine Capital, who first invested in the Series C round.

While the platform flourishes from digitalization tailwinds, Carsome remains focused on supporting its partners to navigate new challenges brought about by the pandemic. Carsome introduced various incentives and bonus rewards for used car dealers in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand under its Dealer Alliance Support Program. The company also introduced its Covid-19 Support Fund this year for employees affected by the pandemic.

airasia marks 19 years of digital evolution; transforming into an Asean super app

After 19 years of enabling everyone to fly, what started off as a humble low cost carrier with just two planes, airasia has come a long way, to be a leading player in the region and now, much more than just an airline.

From being the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the past 11 consecutive years, airasia has transformed into a leading all-in-one Asean digital travel and lifestyle super app, selling not just its own flight tickets but also those of other airlines.

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun
Datuk Kamarudin Meranun
, Executive Chairman of airasia group said: “When we first started off as a low cost carrier, many were in doubt of our prospects and being an underdog in a market dominated by legacy airlines made it all the more challenging. Almost two decades on, we not only proved our critics wrong; we are now connecting over 160 destinations across Asia and the Pacific, bringing the people of Asean even closer together. With airline operations in four of Asean’s largest economies and plans for more, no other carrier can be more Asean than us.

“In our birthplace Malaysia, we have played a key role in promoting integration between the West and East Malaysia by providing unrivalled connectivity to the people, and becoming the first airline to connect this country to the once forgotten cities of Macau and Bandung, just to name a few. Not to mention being the first airline to have female pilots in the country, thus recognising women’s contributions and achievements in aviation.

“Most importantly, we have built a strong foundation for a sustainable future for our airline and digital businesses to not only survive, but come out more robust and resilient than ever before. What we have done over recent times to turn the business around in these challenging times is testament to the dedication of our hardworking Allstars and feedback from over 600 million guests who have flown with us. We are working hard on bringing back Allstars that had recently left us at no fault of their own.”

Tan Sri Tony Fernandes
Tan Sri Tony Fernandes
, CEO of airasia group said: “Just as there were skeptics towards us as a low cost airline 19 years ago, there is an equal amount of pessimism towards our digital transformation today. What sets us apart from the rest, however, is our clear and deep understanding of value, our customers and the technology itself, and our determination towards making it happen. We are young, we have great brains that produce great ideas, and we will definitely come back stronger and more powerful post-Covid-19.

“While there’s a glitch - and Covid-19 is a glitch - this is not the end but a new beginning. airasia will be a never ending story that only gets better and better. We will keep on growing to be the best in the world; this is really the time to restart, refresh and rebuild.

“Today on our 19th anniversary, airasia.com is proud to be the leading travel and lifestyle super app in Asean, catering to 17 million monthly active users and growing, giving customers the convenience of finding anything and everything related to travel and everyday life like food and fresh produce all on the one platform.

“The travel downtime caused by the pandemic over the past months has indeed given us a great opportunity to accelerate our digital transformation. Apart from airasia.com for travel-related products and services, we also have e-commerce (airasia shop, airasia food and airasia fresh), Teleport (logistics), Santan (Asean fast food chain), BigPay and BIG Rewards (fintech), as well as the Muslim-centric services platform IKHLAS.”

To commemorate its 19th anniversary this year, airasia today launched airasia Museum, an online archive of the Group’s images, documents and publications related to the history of the company since its early days from pre-2001 up to 2020. The virtual museum takes visitors through key milestones in airasia’s digital journey that started from the outset in 2002, when it became the first airline in Asia to go ticketless via direct online bookings.

During the pandemic downtime, airasia has been rigorously preparing itself for the new norms of air travel by rolling out various contactless innovations such as biometric facial recognition (F.A.C.E.S.) and the Scan2Fly travel and health documents submission via the app to make flying not only safe and affordable but also more hygienic and seamless. In September, it launched Asia Digital Engineering to provide engineering services for airasia’s group of airlines as well as other airlines in the region.

These benefits have made my sleep way better because of Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow, this is all thanks to the founders Shaun and Gee.
