QueQ, a Thai-based community mobile app which optimises queuing time of customers, officially expands to Malaysia with the aim of helping urban Malaysians save time by eliminating the hassle of queueing at their favourite dining outlets.

Like Bangkok, famous restaurant chains and other dining outlets in Kuala Lumpur often face large crowds who are determined to wait for hours in line for their favourite meals. With no other viable alternative to reserving your seats and tables, customers would have no choice but to spend their time ineffectively in long queues.

Now at the touch of a button, Malaysians no longer have to stand in line or sit around the restaurant outlet waiting in a queue, saving time for busy city dwellers in Malaysia through QueQ app. Additionally, the app currently partners with popular outlets such as K Fry Urban Korean Chain, Kurin, Yut Kee Restaurant, Ho Kow Hainanese Kopitiam, Bar-B-Q Plaza, Dotty’s Pastries and Coffee and Klinik Mediviron Seksyen 22 Shah Alam.

“We are proud to officially launch in Malaysia to offer users a smarter and hassle-free method of queuing so that they can save their precious time and spend it wisely on other activities. Through this app, we aim to provide a better experience for every Malaysian who is tired of facing long queues.” said Founder and CEO of QueQ, Rungsun Joh Promprasith.

How the app works is that it enables users to get their queuing ticket at the tap of a button, within a default distance set by the dining outlets. Each outlet has the option to customize their distance access to their queuing tickets, from as near as 100 metres up to tens of kilometres ahead. Hence, for selected outlets, users may even begin joining virtual queues from the comforts of their own home or car.

Users will only be notified by the app once their queue number is near, allowing them to spend their time on other activities rather than having to wait at the outlet for their turn to arrive. Additionally, the app not only allows users to acquire virtual tickets, but provides users with access to exclusive deals and promotions on selected dining outlets.

QueQ also caters to customers who are nearby physical dining outlets. Upon arriving at the designated outlets, customers may acquire physical queueing tickets from QueQ’s own self-serving ticketing kiosk, placed conveniently at the outlets’ entrance. A bigger machine, which is QueQ’s digital kiosk will reflect the queue numbers and once it has reached the customer’s queuing number, they will be ushered to their designated tables. The digital kiosk also allows customers to view the menu of respective outlets.

Alternatively, customers who have the queueing app installed on their phones may virtualize their physical queuing tickets through a QR code scan. This saves them the time from waiting in a single spot at the outlets until their queue number arrives, freeing more time for customers to do other more meaningful activities.

At least 10,000 Malaysians will benefit from free diabetes screening thanks to a new initiative announced today by Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad and Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad (collectively Sun Life Malaysia), a life insurance and Family Takaful provider respectively, in partnership with Walnut Wellness, Roche Diagnostics (M) Sdn Bhd, AM PM Pharmacy Sdn Bhd, and Tigas Alliance Sdn Bhd.

The Brighter Health Screening Programme will offer free diabetes screenings at 47 pharmacy branches across eight states – Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Perak, Johor, Penang, and Sabah. The scheme aims to enhance early diabetes detection among Malaysians and is part of Sun Life Malaysia’s “Brighter YOU” Corporate Responsibility initiatives.

Raymond Lew, the CEO and President/Country Head of Sun Life Malaysia, shared, “Our Diabetes in Asia: Empowering Communities to Lead Healthier Lives report unearthed a troubling finding that Malaysia ranks the highest (3.5 million Malaysians) on the list of diabetes prevalence amongst Asian countries. The report also showed that 93% of Malaysians thought screening for diabetes was necessary, but only 27% have actually been screened. This means, while there is good awareness levels in terms of the importance of pre-emptive action, there is a worrying lack of actual preventive measures being taken by Malaysians”

“The partnership with these 4 healthcare providers is our immediate reaction to addressing these findings. As part of Sun Life Malaysia’s purpose to help people live healthier lives, we are committed to empowering more Malaysians to be proactive in mitigating this silent killer and we believe the blood glucose screenings will be a crucial first step in the right direction,” he added.

The free screenings also aim to identify potential undiagnosed diabetes among Malaysians in order to prevent or delay substantial long-term complications. Beyond direct intervention to screen potentially diabetic patients, the programme is also looking to raise overall awareness of the disease and educate them on proper diabetes management to lead healthier lives.

Sun Life Malaysia has focused on diabetes since 2013, collaborating with Diabetes Malaysia and HOPE Worldwide KL through financial aid for diabetic patients and awareness cum diabetes prevention programmes for the underprivileged.

Sultan Selangor Launches Avisena New Women´s And Children´s Specialist Hospital In Shah Alam

Avisena Group has opened its women’s and children’s specialist hospital with a total of 133 beds and 52 specialist doctors making it the largest private women and children specialist hospital in Malaysia.

It will also offer Plastic and Aesthetic services in the nearest future.

Designed with women and children in mind, the hospital has created a special room for it’s paediatric patient’s mothers called the Anjung Bonda. It is an exclusive room for mothers to rest and recuperate. Unlike labour rooms in other hospital, at Avisena the labour rooms are also designed to create a calm, soothing, homey ambiance for its soon to be mothers.  To educate and alleviate anxiety for children who have to undergo radiology procedure, a dummy CT-Scan machine called kitten scanner is set up. It even has a rooftop playground and playrooms with play therapist at each paediatric ward. On the 11th floor, Sutera Lounge, a waiting area is accessible for its premium patients and visitors. Avisena has a total of 16 suites and executive rooms that comes with a butler service.

Their future plan includes building a 250 bedded hospital in Klang Valley and expanding to a few other locations out of Selangor. The Group is also looking to be listed on Bursa in the next 3 years.

Spritzer Celebrates 30 Years, Reinforces Environmental Stewardship

Spritzer Berhad (Spritzer), Malaysia’s leading producer of bottled natural mineral water, turns 30 this year and the company is celebrating its anniversary with a roadshow that aims to reinforce its commitment toward environmental stewardship.

Speaking at the official launch of the roadshow titled “30 years of Natural Goodness” held at the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Dr. Chuah Chaw Teo, Spritzer’s director of R&D, said that environmental preservation has been at the core of the company’s operations from its earliest history.

“From the very beginning of our operations, we viewed environmental pollution with great concern because we understood how it can affect the quality of water, as well as damage the already limited sources of water in the country,” said Chuah.

“It is with this concern that Spritzer took the initiative to invest in a vast landbank measuring 330 acres, approximately the size of 266 football fields, surrounded by a pristine tropical rainforest, located far away from all pollution and creating a safe zone around our water source, hence protecting the integrity, quality, safety and purity of its natural mineral water,” he said, elaborating that the company’s natural mineral water is untouched by human hands, from source to bottle.

“Then, as part of our corporate social responsibility and to create awareness among the public on the importance of embracing sustainability as a lifestyle, we erected a Spritzer EcoPark in the midst of this facility, where visitors are welcomed to relax and unwind in quiet, surrounded by natural flora and fauna in their original environment, undisturbed by humans,” Chuah said.

Spritzer EcoPark was opened to the public in July 2015. The park features various recreational, educational and tourism-related activities and attractions includes jungle trekking, bird-watching, golfing at an 18-hole mini golf course, a visitor gallery, guided tours of the company’s water bottling process and more.

“Our efforts didn’t stop there and we continuously carry-out initiatives at the park to strengthen the ecosystems there, as well as create greater awareness towards the need to protect and preserve our environment,” Chuah said and added that the company had recently planted over 16,000 trees at the park to enhance its biodiversity.

Chuah also stated that Spritzer’s environmental efforts goes beyond protecting the company-owned water sources and supply. “We also strive to ensure that our efforts are not limited to just conserving and protecting the environment, but also to achieve a more sustainable practice by intertwining some of these into our own product life-cycle,” he said.

As an example, Chuah pointed to the company’s mineral water bottles that comes with a special ‘twist and turn’ feature, making the container collapsible which would save up to 57% of space in a recycling bin.

“We are also introducing ACILIS, a new silica-rich natural mineral water from Spritzer that comes in plant-based bottles that are non-toxic and compostable  ̶  a first in Malaysia,” he said.

“The introduction of ACILIS is another significant effort that aims to offer customers who are environmentally-conscious with high-quality, great tasting natural mineral water that uses alternatives to the regular mineral bottles found on shelves,” Chuah said.

“These plant-based bottles are eco-friendly as 30% of the plastic material used to make them come from the fibre and other discarded, unused parts of the sugar cane or corn,” he explained.

“Moreover, manufacturing these bottles produces less CO2 emissions, while the bottles are 100% recyclable,” he elaborated.

“As for ensuring environmental sustainability of our operations, I’m proud to announce that we are investing in a fully-automated warehouse that is equipped with green building features, and is expected to commence operations early next year,” he revealed.

“This warehouse, also being built at our current site in Taiping, costs over RM45 million, and will feature state-of-the-art equipment, smart connected systems and leverages on IoT to drive greater efficiency in our operations,” he said.

AirAsia Foundation’s Destination: GOOD social enterprise hub opens in Kuala Lumpur

AirAsia Foundation opened its first social enterprise hub, Destination: GOOD, here today, marking a new milestone in its social entrepreneurship advocacy.

Located in REXKL, within the historic heart of the city, Destination: GOOD retails more than 400 responsibly and ethically produced goods sourced from over 30 social enterprises from around Asean. More than a shop, it aims to be an exchange that fosters collaboration between Asean social entrepreneurs and community-based enterprises.

“In the last seven years, we have awarded 24 grants to innovative Asean social enterprises to help them grow. We realised that to expand our reach, we needed to create broad-based platforms to speak to new markets and audiences. Through Destination: GOOD, we hope to do just that and make social enterprise goods and services accessible to anyone seeking sustainable travel and lifestyle solutions,” said AirAsia Foundation Executive Director Yap Mun Ching.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Minister of Finance YB Lim Guan Eng, who was joined by AirAsia Group Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes. Also present to share their stories were 10 of AirAsia Foundation’s Malaysian social enterprise partners, including The Basikal, Langit Collective and The Picha Project.

AirAsia Foundation also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Kraftangan Malaysia to bring Malaysian crafts to a new audience and with Minconsult Sdn Bhd, the AirAsia philanthropic arm’s first corporate partner, to jointly fund social enterprise outreach activities in Kuala Lumpur.

The morning’s event was capped by a fashion show to showcase the new GOOD/jahat/ travel-themed collection by AirAsia Foundation and Malaysian conceptual design house Projek Jahat. Made using upcycled AirAsia materials, the twelve-piece ensemble was launched two days before at the opening of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2019. All pieces from this collection are now available at Destination: GOOD.

Over the past two years, AirAsia Foundation has operated Destination: GOOD as a pop-up store in various locations, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2). This is the first time the shop will have a permanent address. Its new home, REXKL, formerly the iconic Rex Cinema, which has been transformed into a multicultural creative and entrepreneurial hub. Like REXKL, Destination: GOOD seeks to promote culture and foster a sense of community.

AirAsia presents the future of air travel to the Prime Minister of Malaysia


AirAsia presented the future of air travel to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad, in conjunction with his official visit to AirAsia’s headquarters RedQ here today.

The tour kicked off at the Innovation Lab with AirAsia presenting airasia.com, its all-in-one travel platform which now features not only travel but also lifestyle offerings so guests can book all their travel needs on one site, from flights and accommodation to ground transport, tours, entertainment and more.

This was followed by a demonstration of a seamless, fully digital airport experience powered by AirAsia’s FACES (Fast Airport Clearance Experience System), which would allow a guest to perform a digital check-in, self baggage drop, immigration clearance and boarding using facial recognition technology. AirAsia also demonstrated how digital engineering solutions such as blockchain technology and Skywise are able to provide more efficient, more reliable and greener end-to-end operations.

AirAsia also showcased other key components of its future travel blueprint, including e-marketplace OURSHOP, cargo and logistics platform Teleport, fintech venture BigPay, and lifestyle and entertainment affiliates such as Santan and AirAsia Foundation.

The prime minister was accompanied by Minister of Transport Yang Berhormat Loke Siew Fook. Key executives from AirAsia who were present included AirAsia Group Berhad Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and members of AirAsia Malaysia’s senior management.

Primeworks Studios Announces Malaysian Release for Dendam Pontianak

Primeworks Studios announced today that Dendam Pontianak, starring Nur Fazura and Remy Ishak will be theatrically released on 12 September 2019 in Malaysia. This is the first distribution partnership between Singapore’s Tiger Tiger Pictures and Primeworks Studios.

Co-written and co-directed by Glen Goei and Gavin Yap, Dendam Pontianak is about a newly married couple, who’s life is shaken by the arrival of a vengeful Pontianak, forcing them down a dark path of betrayal, witchcraft and murder.



The Pontianak in Southeast Asian mythos refers to the vengeful spirit of a pregnant woman who died during childbirth. It is widely known as one of the most gruesome horror tales in Asian folklore but at its core, Dendam Pontianak is a tragic tale of love and loss. Portrayed on a unique Asian canvas, audiences will be introduced to a completely new and intelligent take on the horror genre. With Dendam Pontianak, Goei and Yap pay homage to classical horror, but with a revisionist and contemporary spin.

Rounding up the cast are Hisyam Hamid, Shenty Feliziana, Nam Ron, Tony Eusoff, Nadiah M.Din, Wan Hanafi Su, Nadia Aqilah and Nik Harraz Danish. The production crew consists of the best talents from the region including editor Lee Chatametikool (box office hit Shutter), sound designer Akritchalerm Kalayanamitr (Cannes Palme d'Or winner, Uncle Boomee Who Can Recall His Past Lives), visual consultant Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love) and upcoming Singaporean cinematographer Jon Keng.



The theme song for Dendam Pontianak, “Kasihku Selamanya” is sung by Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, with a haunting music video accompanying the film’s release. This is the first for Malaysia’s Queen of Pop to have a song for a horror feature film and recording was done about 3 months ago. The song is composed by award-winning composer Aubrey Suwito with lyrics by Ad Samad.

NCR Corporation this week announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art Services Center of Excellence (CoE) in Kuala Lumpur. Located at Bangsar South City, this facility, which consolidated three locations, will serve as NCR’s services hub for the Asia Pacific region serving the banking, hospitality and retail industries.

Housing 400 highly trained, multi-lingual service professionals, the center enables NCR to quickly introduce next-generation services that keep commerce running for both large, global brands and local neighborhood businesses.
