AirAsia Group Head of Branding Rudy Khaw accepted the award at a ceremony held at the Majestic Hotel here last night.

AirAsia Group Head of Branding Rudy Khaw said, “We would like to thank all our guests who voted for us. We are delighted to know the AirAsia brand continues to resonate with Malaysians from all walks of life, even as we move towards becoming a travel and lifestyle tech company. This award is dedicated to everyone who believes in us, and to all our Allstars who have worked hard to build AirAsia into what it is today.”

AirAsia conducts reef and beach clean-up in support of International Coastal Cleanup 2019

AirAsia Allstars from across Asean cleared 151kg of rubbish from the Pantai Sura beachfront in Kuala Dungun, Terengganu.
AirAsia, together with Project AWARE and Viking Scuba Tenggol, recently conducted a reef and beach clean-up in Terengganu, Malaysia in conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day on 21 September.

Forty AirAsia Allstars (staff) joined hands to reduce marine debris and create greater awareness of the need to protect our oceans, and the harm of single-use plastics, as part of AirAsia’s #AllstarsDoGood regional initiative.

The Allstars, who are all certified scuba divers from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, cleared 40kg worth of ghost nets from a dive site in Tenggol Island and collected 151kg of rubbish from the Pantai Sura beachfront in Kuala Dungun.

#AllstarsDoGood is a staff initiative established by AirAsia’s People and Culture department to encourage staff to volunteer for a good cause. To date, 4,160 volunteer hours have been recorded from various #AllstarsDoGood initiatives across Asean.
AirAsia Allstars removed a ghost net from one of the dive sites at Pulau Tenggol, ensuring that no other marine life will be entangled in it.
AirAsia’s Group Head of Culture Attila Emam said, “This is our third reef and beach clean-up project under the #AllstarsDoGood initiative after Pattaya and Batangas, and the first in Malaysia. As a travel company that brings so many people to beautiful beach and island destinations across the region, we want to make sure we do our part in educating people on the importance of taking care of these destinations.”

“We are happy to report that the three dive sites we visited at Tenggol Island had minimal marine debris. However, 95% of what we collected on Pantai Sura were single-use plastics, mainly of food packaging. The beachfront is a popular hangout place and most of the rubbish was found in between rocks. Imagine 151kg of rubbish collected in an hour, and the problem can be solved by just putting the trash in the right place. We’ve submitted the beach clean-up data to the Ocean Conservancy platform, while the reef clean-up data has been reported on Project AWARE’s website,” he added.

AirAsia has 25,000 Allstars and actively conducts #AllstarsDoGood staff volunteer programmes across the region.

Samsung is Leading the Industry with New Standards in Wi-Fi Connectivity

Galaxy Note10 the first smartphone to be announced Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6TM by the Wi-Fi Alliance
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. yesterday announced that the Galaxy Note10 has been named by Wi-Fi Alliance as the first smartphone to be certified for a new standard in connected technology, Wi-Fi 6.

“As a pioneer in new mobile experiences Samsung is proud to be announced as one of the first companies to hold the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6TM accreditation,” said Inkang Song, Vice President and Head of Technology Strategy Group of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “The Galaxy Note10 is one of our flagship devices and the first smartphone classified Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6TM. Along with the Galaxy S10 we’re thrilled to bring Wi-Fi 6 to our loyal customers.”

Wi-Fi 6 enabling new mobile experiences
Wi-Fi is a critical piece of infrastructure required to enable the proper function of a growing number of both consumer and commercial devices. From televisions and appliances to security and communication systems, the expectations for everything, and everyone, to be connected is growing. Wi-Fi Alliance has led the development of industry agreed standards for devices for many years. With the launch of Wi-Fi 6 this year, a new certification has been launched to ensure that the highest possible standards are continuously met.

Wi-Fi 6 technology is building on the performance of previous Wi-Fi generations and is the latest technology to be launched from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Wi-Fi 6 will operate in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, offer greater capacity than previous generations and double the number of spatial streams. Devices certified by Wi-Fi Alliance, classed as “Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6TM”, will deliver new capabilities for people in a range of situations.
  • Wi-Fi 6 will allow family homes to better stream high-definition entertainment, simultaneously manage the connected home and efficiently support multiple devices.
  • Outside, Wi-Fi 6 will improve connectivity in high population areas and provide a more consistent service as people move around towns and cities.
  • In the enterprise, this new technology will enable greater automation and more advanced capabilities in healthcare monitoring and e-learning as well as continuing to handle large numbers of users and high volumes of data.

Samsung mobile devices with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6TM will bring more reliable performance even in challenging environments . This is achieved through a number of the key features of Wi-Fi 6 technology. For example:
  • Uplink and downlink Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) increases efficiency and lowers latency for high demand environments. This enables the Samsung Note10 to have stable connectivity in environments with many connected devices.
  • Target-Wakeup Time (TWT) improves power efficiency in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 TM devices, including the Galaxy Note10. Because the TWT schedules transmission time between the Galaxy Note10 and the access point, it allows the Galaxy Note10 to manage its power efficiently until the predetermined wake-up time.
  • Multi-User Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) allows more data to be transferred at one time, enabling access points to handle larger numbers of devices simultaneously when the Galaxy Note10 is connected to Wi-Fi 6.

As a result of close collaboration with Wi-Fi Alliance, Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy S10 have offered Wi-Fi 6 connectivity from the launch. It gives users faster and seamless Wi-Fi connection in crowded areas, and powers high-quality video calls as well as high-definition streaming without slowing down.

These new technologies include cloud computing, pricing optimisation through machine learning, AI-powered chatbot, mobile app chatroom and facial recognition technology, among others.

AirAsia Group President (RedBeat Ventures) Aireen Omar accepted both awards on behalf of AirAsia at the IDC Digital Transformation Summit 2019 at The St Regis Kuala Lumpur today.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said, "We are thrilled to receive these awards. We've been trying to show the world that we are a technology company that just happens to have some planes, and I'm extremely excited that AirAsia has been recognised as a digital transformation leader. These awards mean a lot because it's exactly what we're trying to do and we really appreciate the recognition that IDC has given us."

AirAsia Group President (RedBeat Ventures) Aireen Omar said, "Today wouldn't be possible if we didn't have Allstars who share our digital vision. Without their hard work, perseverance and passion, we would not have been able to achieve so much in such a short time. Our business partners too have been very supportive, especially Google Cloud, who will be instrumental in turning AirAsia into Malaysia’s first 100% cloud-driven enterprise by year end."

IDC DXa honours the achievements of organisations that have successfully planned and executed the digital transformation of one or multiple areas of their business through the application of digital and disruptive technologies.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Now Available

Category-defining foldable device inspires new mobile experiences with custom UX, mobility and powerful multitasking

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. earlier this month announced the launch of the Galaxy Fold—a completely new category of mobile technology—available in Korea on September 6, followed by select countries including France, Germany, Singapore, U.K., U.S., and more, in Cosmos Black and Space Silver. With a 5G-ready option in select countries, consumers will be able to unfold the future on the fastest network speeds available.

Galaxy Fold was designed to inspire new experiences: When closed, you can access your essentials on the cover display comfortably with one hand, and when opened, you can explore new ways to multitask, watch videos, play games, and more, on its immersive 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display.

During the past several months, Samsung has been refining the Galaxy Fold to ensure it delivers the best possible experience. Not only did Samsung improved the Galaxy Fold’s design and construction, but it also took the time to rethink the entire consumer journey.

“The category-defining Galaxy Fold is a device that defies the barriers of traditional smartphone design. Now, we’re excited to release this pioneering mobile technology, and allow consumers to experience it for themselves,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “Consumers have responded positively to larger screens, and the Galaxy Fold’s revolutionary form factor offers a bigger, more immersive screen without sacrificing portability. This is what we call innovation of new mobile experience in action.”

First-of-its-Kind User Experience
The Galaxy Fold combines users’ favorite smartphone and tablet features to deliver a new kind of mobile device and a first-of-its-kind user experience—from a new form factor and materials to its unique foldable UX, versatile camera and premium performance. Samsung worked alongside partners to create an entirely new UX that will change the way we use our mobile devices and takes full advantage of the foldable design with its cover and main displays. As a result, the device opens up new possibilities for users.

The Galaxy Fold transforms how you capture, share, and edit mobile content. When closed, you can shoot a quick video, and then simply open the device to watch it on a larger screen—with App Continuity, the video seamlessly transitions from the cover display to the main display.  With Multi-Active Window, you can run multiple apps at once in real-time and effectively multitask: Edit footage, browse through the photo gallery for still shots, and read emails from friends and co-workers, all at the same time.

With a 5G-ready option, Galaxy Fold users in select markets can take full advantage of their carriers’ fastest speeds. The Galaxy Fold 5G harnesses the full power of next-generation connectivity for streaming and downloading high-resolution videos and other content, as well as graphics-heavy games, at super-charged speeds.  By allowing us to do more with the 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display, the Galaxy Fold is changing the way we consume content and multitask.

Every Galaxy Fold comes with exclusive access to specialized customer care services – including one-on-one access to Samsung experts, and a 24/7 support hub online or over the phone. Samsung will elaborate on plans in each market to ensure every aspect of the Galaxy Fold experience is as extraordinary as the device itself.
